Congratulations. Although very interesting to see promotions in Perth but redundancies in the other Wunderman Thompson Australia offices…
@hmmm not really when you understand how agencies and roles work. It’s not just about a dollar value to save, it’s about what roles are needed for the future state of the business. Also, without any affiliation to this agency, I can say from experience that there is also sometimes the case of letting go under performers and promoting stars. It’s just business and hopefully it’s all handled in the most humane way. As always, there’s nuance to all these things.
Redundancies are proof of bad management, not underperforming employees
@hmmmm2 not true. I was let go because of a global alignment which caused us to lose our biggest client. I’ve also had to let people go because they were not performing and sadly the business couldn’t carry them.
and also worth noting the different roles. New era skills growing and replacing old era skills. It’s a natural thing about the evolution of an agency really.
I’ll be looking for a new job in Sydney. The office here’s only got about 10 staff left. Sad.
Ok sure, let’s go with that. So, what you’re smugly saying is there’s no underperforming employees in the Perth office? Those Rio Tinto dollars must be keeping the coffers full. Seems like nonsense to me, gutting production, creative, finance and accounts in Melbourne & Sydney ONLY – all whilst promoting in Perth? Can you take a step back and see how that looks from the outside looking in? If I was a current employee in one of the east coast offices I’d have my CV ready and recruiters on speed-dial. I’d not be surprised if Sydney and Melbourne WT’s shut their doors in the not too distant future and Perth absorbs the remaining clients.
I wasn’t trying to be smug. Just giving some honest views based on my few years in management. Sorry to hear that there have been redundancies, genuinely. But I would suspect it’s all to keep the business going. Very hard decisions to make but you would hope it’s in the interest of keeping all the other jobs. I don’t think you’ll see any offices shutting because of this.
