WorkSafe ad.pngWorkSafe Victoria is aiming to reduce injuries on housing construction sites across the state with a new digital quiz campaign, Top Tradie. In a first for WorkSafe, Top Tradie is hosted on a mobile optimised website which can be accessed both by smartphone and computers.

WorkSafe engaged cross-media public relations agency Keep Left, in partnership with mobile specialist agency jTribe, to help deliver its safety messages to housing construction workers and supervisors.

Over the next six weeks, teams will compete for weekly prizes by answering a mix of 10 sport and safety-related questions each week. The weekly prizes include adrenalin sports packages, footy tickets and vouchers with the overall winning team getting four tickets to one of Victoria’s premier motorcycle events.

The digital platform is supported by comprehensive media, social media and stakeholder engagement, including support from Western Bulldogs player Daniel Giansiracusa.

Says Lisa Sturzenegger, WorkSafe’s general manager for operations: “More than 20 Victorian tradies a week were seriously injured on housing construction sites last year, costing the industry $17-million in medical costs, wages and other expenses.

“Tradies, particularly those working on housing construction sites have typically been difficult for us to reach. Research conducted last year told us that tradies were most receptive to safety messages online, particularly when accessible via smartphone,” she said.

“Safety is more than just common sense. Making people aware and getting them to talk about safety on site is the first step to improving onsite practices.”

Top Tradie is now live at toptradie.com.au <http://www.toptradie.com.au/> . To be eligible for prizes, entrants must have a construction induction card (or equivalent) and work in housing construction in Victoria.
