Whybins takes entire IAG account – NRMA, SGIC, SGIO – in shoot-out with M&C Saatchi
CB Exclusive – Campaign Brief can reveal that Whybin\TBWA\Tequila, Sydney has won the entire IAG account – which comprises NRMA, SGIC and SGIO – in a two way pitch against M&C Saatchi. The win, apart from above the line, also includes digital (digital incumbent is Mark), which was not on the original pitch brief.
The incumbent was STW owned agency, Human, which withdrew from thepitch back in June. Human, which was set up by STW in 2007 to house theaccount, came up with the current ‘Unworry’ campaign a year after winning the business from M&C Saatchi.
The win is the first pitch creatively led by new joint executive creative directors Dave Bowman and Matty Burton, who were recruited from Saatchi & Saatchi Sydney and Droga5 Sydney respectively back in May.
UPDATED WEDNESDAY WITH THE OFFICIAL RELEASE BELOW:
Insurance Australia Group Limited (IAG) has announced the appointment of Whybin\TBWA\Tequila as its new creative agency, consolidating above-the-line, digital and direct advertising work previously handled by two agencies.
The agency has won the IAG account for the NRMA brand in New South Wales and Queensland, the SGIO brand in Western Australia and the SGIC brand in South Australia. The win is one of the largest pieces of advertising business in Australia.
Says Paul Bradbury, Whybin\TBWA\Tequila’s managing director: “We are thrilled that IAG have entrusted us to help grow and manage these three iconic Australian brands. It’s a responsibility we don’t take lightly. The hard work starts now.”
Says John Lewis, senior manager of advertising and promotion for NRMA Insurance, SGIO and SGIC: “We’re excited to appoint Whybin\TBWA\Tequila as our new creative agency partner following a rigorous review process. We talked to some great agencies throughout the pitch process and are really pleased to be working with Whybin\TBWA\Tequila for the next evolution of our marketing communications strategy. The agency has a great reputation in the industry and we are confident they will build on our already strong brand presence in the market.”

YIKES!
God please let M&C be able to keep all their glammazon account handlers…
Don’t worry.
They’re all safe.
Thank god.
congrats matty & dave – crackin’ start.
Good luck to Whybins. Shocker of an account.
Good one Matty and Dave!
Yeah, nice one Davey & Matt!
Human has actually done some nice work on the account.

awesome!
Good on ya Dave and Matty… show ’em it’s done.
There are many stories from the days when the account was with Saatchis – some rather depressing, some hilarious, like a Rodney Rude road safety campaign “You’re a Dick” which was recorded and ready to go to air before it was suddenly canned by the CEO, whose name was Dick… A fairly difficult client, but huge billings. A great win.
I don’t think M&C are that bothered , given the business they’ve put on lately. Nightmare account , let’s wait and see the work that Whybins do before we judge….but don’y hold your breath.
Ha… well done CB breaking this news first, must have pissed off the other trade press no end as major account moves are more their territory I would have thought. Which is why I couldn’t help laughing when a half hour later they both claimed it as an exclusive on their respective websites! One of them even sent out their daily newsletter again, obviously embarrassed having missed the big story of the day.
By the way, well done Dave, Matty and don’t forget Whybin’s head of art Matt Kemsley and the rest of the team.
Well done Team Whybin and especially Dave & Matty, not even a month into the gig.
Death to Home Brand agencies. Hopefully for the good of the industry the fascination with creating fake agencies to handle business will stop.
And I hope every one at Human gets a job at a real agency brand straight away!
I thought Matt Kemsley was CD there, has been demoted already?
hangon, if they’ve been there one month, & client’s just made the decision, the pitch was probably presented a month or so ago.
Should Dave & Matty really get so much credit for this win? hmm.
Well done Gary!
Whybin\TBWA\Tequila-Booooom!
Love Kemsley!
Matt and Dave skipped the pitch, swinging in just in time for the celebrations. My mail reads that the kudos goes to Jeffers and Bradders
so this line must be whybins crock? “The win is the first pitch creatively led by new joint executive creative directors Dave Bowman and Matty Burton” . I feel for the team that no doubt worked their butts of to win this for them.. shez.
Final pitch was last Wednesday boys. But they missed the first round, although Garry had long left the building. It was Scott Whybin himself in the first round.
go team tbwa
I actually feel for Matty & Dave.
They’re being hawked as the CDs of the pitch, which, as we all know, would have been won by some pretty bog-standard stealomatic brand work with a nice low price to sweeten the deal.
When the ads actually start pooing out, I’ll be interested to see if they put their name to ’em.
10.52AM:
You obviously haven’t seen the work.
No stealomatics.
Give ’em a break, lets wait and see before judging…. mind you, i wouldn’t be saying that if the work was coming out of the tired Melbourne office.
