Toyota to launch ‘Unbreakable Hilux’ spot on Facebook today @ 3.30pm AEST via Saatchi’s
UPDATED TO INCLUDE THE SPOT: Toyota Australia will launch the TV advertising campaign for its new-look HiLux – not on TV, but on the company’s 4×4 Facebook site this week.
Visitors to facebook.com/Toyota4x4, which has 57,000 followers, will be able to view the new TV commercial from 3.30pm AEST on Friday, September 16. The ad, which goes to air this Sunday (September 18), is the latest in a long line of iconic humorous ads promoting Australia’s best-selling ute.
Toyota Australia divisional manager national marketing Scott Thompson said the ad tells the story about a ‘bromance’ between a man and his beloved HiLux. Says Thompson: “Ninety per cent of HiLux buyers are men – and they love their HiLux because it often doubles as a rugged, trusty workmate during the week and as familyor recreational transport on the weekend.
The ad demonstrates that HiLux is a reliable friend – and the only thing moreunbreakable than the bond between a man and his HiLux is the new HiLuxitself.”
Thompson said launching the campaign on Facebook acknowledged thesupport of Toyota’s 57,000 loyal 4×4 Facebook fans, many of whom have a’bromance’ with their own HiLux.
He added: “The formidable reputation for ruggedness and reliability has enabled HiLux toattract more than 40,000 customers in each of the past five years.”
The campaign will air from Sunday 18th with a focus within the AFL & NRLfootball finals showing 60″ and 30″ TV commercials.
A 90″ version will live online. It will be supported with an extensive print, outdoor and online
schedule.

I bet $1,000,000,000 it’s not as good as “Nothing Soft …”
This could either be a great idea to make it exclusive to fb or a major backfire, it will be put on youtube yes, but contrary to what most other people think about social media, I think it cheapens an idea in it’s own right. Do tradies really engage with facebook to the point where they’re watching and spreading little videos when they can be with damo down the pub sinking a few beers? I dont know could be a winner but I doubt it.
Macca, they’re running it on TV anyway so your point is mute. (Though I kind of agree with your basic point, unless the ad is an absolute killer, in which case it could well go viral.)
soft
Really nice spot. Well done Floyd & CF!
It will work well for the brand. It won’t win awards though.
Chimp, surely you meant moot, which means debatable, up for discussion – not mute, which means silent, unable to speak. But then as a simian (look it up) – or more likely a junior art director – it’s nothing short of miraculous that you’ve been able to type your message and share it on the internet.
Extremely entertained
Jealous!
@ Macca. Mate you are an out of touch stuck up retard. Tradesmen probably earn triple what you do and yes they know how to use a computer and a smart phone. Ad’s funny by the way.
Aussie ad of the year. So far at least.
It’s bloody ‘hill’arious, well done Steve. Not sure if they can back up the claim that after driving it off a cliff it will work again but it’s a great entertaining spot.
The brilliant island spot with the coconuts was always going to be a hard act to follow. This merely proves the point.
great. Tradies will love it. V good guys.
The guy is great. Really nice. Best thing since bugger.
I like it a lot. Very funny.
Could very well pick up.
Every time the last hilux ad came on, I couldn’t stop looking at the bad post. But this one gave me a good laugh. Taste is a funny thing I guess.
Strikes me as eeerily similar to an American spot from a few years ago for the same car, but not nearly as good.

Long bow 7:14.
Funny ad.
Fantastic performance the scream is Oscar worthy!
Nice consumer/driver insight married up with a product insight. That’s smart advertising in my book.
“farkin rippa” as a tradie would say.
laughs all round from my mates during the carlton game. Punters will love this.
that ending was such a surprise!
Sweet music.
Its entertaining but the ‘lost without you’ storyline is nothing new and ‘truck off cliff’ is nothing new. Sorry. The coconut one was a better idea, shame I cant say the post was.
Like it a lot.
Fantastic advert saatchi’s. I’m sure the client is v happy.
Can’t believe what I’m reading. Saatchi’s must have really gone to town on leaving positive comments. This is just a mash up of Bugger and the American ad with the car going off the cliff along with a lame track bolted on. Hate it.
yeah this is just a mash up of good ideas. Those saatchis guys are writting lots of comments. Nodoby could like this ad it’s so bad. I hate you all; why does other peoples success make me feel so bad, i hate my life.
just came across this and i really like it. well done. great stuff fellas.
fantastic ad very funny one of the best i have ever seen
LOL!!!
