Curious Film salutes Sailor Jerry with upcoming screenings at The Lightbulb Lounge Room
Last Thursday night Curious Film took over the old Paramount building in Surry Hills for an exclusive screening to celebrate the distribution release of Hori Smoku Sailor Jerry, a documentary on the life of world-renowned tattooist Sailor Jerry.
Upon arrival, roller skating girls greeted industry guests who were treated to a Yummy Dogs D.I.Y hotdog kiosk, live tattooing, Sailor Jerry dog tags, and toe-tapping music by rockabilly act Pat Capocci. Arm-wrestling and rum drinking went hand-in-hand with the sea-faring theme, before the party continued into the late hours at local hotspot Tio’s.
Says Peter Grasse, Curious Film: “The night was a great opportunity to celebrate with Curious friends and family the release of a documentary that relishes in the exciting life and times of such a fascinating cultural icon. A big thank you to our music sponsor Uncanny Valley and to everyone that came along to support the screening.”
In conjunction with the Sailor Jerry brand, Curious Film will be running a series of intimate documentary screenings at venue The Lightbulb Lounge Room, based in North Bondi.
Shelled peanuts and spiced rum based on the man himself, Sailor Jerry, will naturally accompany the screenings. Tomorrow’s (April 19th 2012) screening will open doors at 6pm, for a 7pm start.
To support the documentary screenings, along with The Lightbulb Lounge Rooms’ event ‘Our Work Speaks for Itself’, the venue walls will feature an exhibition consisting of Sailor Jerry’s Flash artwork.
Showcased in premium ornate wooden frames, these ink inspirations will be displayed throughout the space with the largest piece ‘Ships & Mermaids’ hanging in the gallery’s front window.
Throughout the week, the event will include live tattooing by Hunter & Fox Tattoo, hair styling by The Sterling Barber Shop, and music by Big Blind Ray and The Wailing Wall.
Alongside the main exhibition, live art by Will Lynes, an up-and-coming sign writer from the company Lynes & Co, will also be on display. The work created will relate back to elements of the Sailor Jerry brand and will include a sign hanging on the back gallery deck stating ‘Sailor Jerry Presents’.
Hori Smoku Sailor Jerry DVDs can be purchased from The Lightbulb Lounge Room .
Another screening presented by Curious Film will be held in Melbourne during May 2012, with a location to be announced shortly.

Was a great night.
Awesome night. Nice one Pete.
If you missed the pop-up at the Paramount. Or, if you were at the Paramount, but missed the film cause you was partying… The LLR is a great venue to see Hori Smoku again.More drinks, good people and fun!
