Digital-first brand agency Type + Pixel has announced a trio of senior appointments and the launch of a social division.
Natalie van der Rijt and Jermold Compton join as creative director and digital creative director respectively, stepping into newly created leadership roles designed to foster the agency’s focus on collaboration and co-creation.
Van der Rijt, previously creative director at Hero in Brisbane, brings to the team extensive expertise in brand design and campaign work and an award-winning, 20-year career which includes stints in London and Amsterdam.
Compton is an interactive design and UX specialist with almost two decades of experience in digital and brand design. He started his career in Trinidad and Tobago, working on some of the Caribbean’s biggest brands before moving to Brisbane in 2019.
The pair will work closely to deliver brands, campaigns and experiences that combine consumer insights and brand strategy with digital thinking and tech-based solutions.
Says Darren Walls, co-founder, Type + Pixel: “Creating bold and differentiated digital-first brands is our sweet spot. With that in mind we’re building a multi-disciplined, brand focused design team and implementing a new co-creative process that breaks down traditional design silos to deliver even more robust and cohesive brands for our clients.
“Jermold and Natalie have different but complementary perspectives and backgrounds, and each brings a new dimension to the team.”
Recruited to lead Type + Pixel’s newly minted social division is social strategist Sarah Marriott. She joins from Sydney social agency L&A Social where she led paid and earned social campaigns for Woolworths and True Alliance among others.
Says Marriott: “Type + Pixel are known for designing great digital brands and experiences but until now social hasn’t been part of their core offer. I’m looking forward to applying my knowledge of content and social strategy in a new market.”
Adds Walls: “Making a social play has been on our radar for some time but we were waiting to find the right person to really drive and take ownership of it. Sarah is absolutely that person and we’re excited to have her on board.”
