TVC DP wins Best Cinematography at Tropfest
In demand DP, Tony Gardiner, received the Best Cinematography gong for his work on Tropfest’s 3rd place film, The Maestro.
Combining both real time and time-lapse, the film was shot on the Canon 5d mkII HDSLR system, using available light.
Says Gardiner: “Because of the challenging time lapse requirements we took our time in the recce to find locations that had to fit a graphic and visual criteria. Firstly locations had to creatively suit the story and secondly they had to have good available light for the time of day we would be shooting.”
The shoot, in contrast to so many Tropfest films, took two and a half months to film. Producer, co-writer and compositor, Edward Copestick was responsible for seamlessly combining the real time plates with the time-lapse footage. Trish Cahill took the Colourist helm to realize the amazing spectrum and in-camera FX seen in The Maestro’s world.
Says Gardiner: “My thanks to director, Adam Anthony. It was a real joy as a cinematographer to get a script from a director / writer that was so visual. To go on that journey with Adam and to have that trust together allowed us to get inside the Maestros world and tell his story to the world.”
