Melbourne-based The Royals publishes first iPad magazine for Care International – ‘Open Field’
This week sees Melbourne based creative partnership, The Royals, publish their first iPad Magazine for CARE International, entitled ‘Open Field’.
In the first edition of what’s planned to become an annual publication, Open Field presents personal stories from twenty-eight remarkable women – some written, some visual – about transforming moments.
From meeting nuns in Israel to creating Afghan Idol, from a summer without speech to a life without cigarettes, the stories are witty, wise and fearless.
Contributors include: actor Claudia Karvan, writer Fatima Bhutto, musician Sally Seltmann, writer Anne Summers, New Yorker cartoonist Liza Donnelly, artist Lucy McRae, photographer Lili Almog, and Moby media group director Wajma Mohseni.
Says Dave King, innovation director at The Royals: “Open Field was inspired by the moment we learned that when you donate money to a woman in a developing country you affect the lives of everyone around her. We gave money to several charities that advocated this line of giving, but it wasn’t enough. We knew if we made something to sell we could donate more money. So we asked several dozen exceptional women to each contribute a piece about a moment that changed their lives, so we could – together – assist a charity in changing other women’s lives. The funds raised from the sale of Open Field won’t solve the world’s ills, but we believe this is an innovative way to collect money for a charity with a proven track record and in the process assist them in empowering women in developing countries. Also, we hope the very existence of Open Field will spark interest and raise awareness of CARE’s work”.

Great illustration. I don’t get the iPad connection but I’d want to read it.
