The next Copy School, which is run by industry legend Ray Black and supported by The Newspaper Works, will be held in Sydney from the 19th – 23rd October 2015.
Copy School engages some of Australia’s leading advertising creative writers and creative directors to pass on their knowledge and experience to young copywriters.
The 2015 Copy School speakers are:
- Jonathan Kneebone, writer / director and co-founder, The Glue Society
- Will Swanton, journalist, News Corp
- Mark Sharman, creative consultant
- Julian Schreiber, executive creative director / partner, Cummins&Partners
- Rowan Dean, editor, The Spectator Australia, and columnist Financial Review & Courier Mail
- David Morris, creative consultant
- Ralph van Dijk, founder, Eardrum
“Our tutor line up includes some of Australia’s leading and most successful copywriters and creative directors”, says Ray Black, convener of Copy School.
“All of our tutors enthusiastically give their time and priceless experience to our next generation of copywriters. They reveal what they have learnt and what works. Students are given guidelines, disciplines and principals they can use in establishing their own successful careers as copywriters.
“We keep the class size to 20 maximum, that way everyone participates. This is not a relaxing talk fest. Everyone is involved. Two assignments are given early in the week, be completed in their own time and presented on the Friday. It’s real world stuff.
“The five half days tuition costs $250, all of which is donated to The Salvation Army. It’s also tax deductible.
“Copy School is supported by The Newspaper Works who have donated their boardroom to us for the week.
“You don’t have to be a copywriter, just the determination to be a great copywriter and want to listen to and ask questions of the best in the business. Places fill up fast so call Kylie Hannah at The Newspaper Works on 9692 6300 and reserve your spot.”
Says Mark Hollands, CEO, The Newspaper Works: “We’re very proud of the partnership we continue to build with Copy School, as together we deliver opportunities for the creative industry’s younger generation, and contribute to the long term support of Australian advertising creativity.”
The next Copy School workshop will run from 19th – 23rd October from 9am-12pm at The Newspaper Works, Level 2, The Terrace, 60 Union Street Pyrmont. The $250 fee is tax deductible for students and is donated entirely to the Salvation Army.

It would be great if some experienced writers also did this.
The standard is very ‘down down’ in this country.
