The Jamboree Sydney ECD Leslie Ali to represent Australia on prestigious The One Show 2012 jury
Leslie Ali, who was appointed executive creative director at The Jamboree, Sydney back in August, is representing Australia at next year’s The One Show, one of only 28 judges selected from around the world and only 10 outside the USA.
She joins Aussie expat Leo Premutico (Johannes Leonardo, New York) and Kiwi expat Andy Fackrell (outgoing ECD of 180 Amsterdam, soon to be joining DDB New Zealand as ECD), as well as other big names the likes of Eric Silver, Susan Hoffman and Paul Silburn.
Thanks to CB’s lobbying, Australia has had a One Show juror each year since 2006 – and New Zealand has been represented for the last three years.
Ali started her creative career as an art director in the U.S at Wieden & Kennedy on Nike and Coca-Cola. She worked at MTV NY for a stint (writer/director) before accepting a job in London to work on VW and the Guardian at BMP/DDB.
She then joined WCRS as an Executive Creative Director where she ran BMW, Mini, Prudential, 118118, 3 Mobile, Volvic and BUPA before deciding to direct commercials full-time with Partizan. Over the next four years, she developed a taste for film and a reputation for giving funny a sense of style. Her commercials, shorts and music videos gained her industry-wide recognition and a screening at Sundance.
A move to Australia prompted her to join The Monkeys – to write, direct and creative direct. Leslie ran Google, IKEA and Telstra there before moving to Host, with a focus on pushing boundaries and making things for Coca-Cola, Vodafone and Air New Zealand.
Her work’s been recognized and awarded by the Sundance Film Festival, D&AD, Cannes, Award, Creativity, the BTA, the One Show, Creative Review and Boards magazine. Sheis currently creating apps, designing wallpaper and making films. She is represented by Partizan London in the UK for commercial and film work worldwide.

Who is she and who is Jamboree?
With so many great, awarded Aussie creatives available for jury duty, one would have thought The One Club would pick one of them. I’ve checked the Cannes and One Show archives and can’t find a single Lion or Pencil for Leslie. Surely a minimum requirement to judge a show as prestigious as The One Show.

I worked with Leslie before she was at the Monkeys and came to Australia.
Everyone has to acknowledge is she has worked at places and won awards that most people here will only ever dream of.

It is a shame, but there is a real lack of talent in Australia. So much so, they have had to pick an American to represent Australia.
maybe one of the requirements for being a One Show judge is not being a miserable Campaign Brief commenting nob. Which unfortunately eliminates most of you. Kudos Leslie. Well done and well deserved.
