Nylon Studios’ inaugural Pocket Fest short-film festival in Los Angles hailed a big success
The inaugural Pocket Fest short-film festival triumphantly launched late last week at an exclusive screening event at the Pacific Design Center’s Silver Screen Theatre in Los Angeles.
Pocket Fest is the brainchild of boutique music/sound design studio, Sydney and New York based – Nylon Studios.
Premiering eleven short-films, shot exclusively with the Kodak PlayTouch video camera, Pocket Fest put truth behind the saying “from small things – comes something big.”
Attended by some of U.S. adland’s top creative people – Pocket Fest debuted exciting work from eleven talented directors who used nothing more than their inspired vision and the Kodak technology to produce their films. Rising also to the festival challenge which asked them to also include the Pocket Fest signature item – Binoculars – each director succeeded beyond expectation in their interpretation of the theme and the technology.
This year’s Pocket Fest directors were Bob Industries’ Harry Cocciolo, B-Reel Film’s The Colony, City Film’s Kevin Donovan, Foundation Content’s Focus Creeps, Gartner’s Ted Melfi, Harvest Films’ The Hoffman Brothers, Independent Media’s Tom Foley, Insomniac Content’s Mel Rodriguez, Superfad’s Justin Leibow, Tool of North America’s Matt Ogens and Workhorse Media’s Angela + Ithyle.
Mark Beckhaus – Nylon Studios founder (pictured above left with David Gaddie and Simon Lister) commented on this years films: “We were blown away by the amazing talent of each of the Directors and together with the incredible work our Nylon composers – Pocket Fest 2011 was an overwhelming success. We’re looking now 2012 and where Pocket Fest 2012 might go.”
Pock Fest has teamed up with Inner-City Filmmakers (ICF) throughout the many stages of the festival. ICF is an organization which has been providing free year round industry education for disadvantaged youths for over 15 years. The students from ICF were pivotal part of Pocket Fest, with the directors and resource partners involving them in every aspect of the festival – from assisting on shoots, observing the mixing process, shooting their own films and even guest blogging on the Kodak site about their experience. Their film “Pocketful of Memories” was also screened on the night.
Pocket Fest would not have been possible without the support of an amazing group of resource partners – these include Kodak, Poolhouse, Patron, Gabrielle Schary Casting, Ellen Knable/EKA, Michele Morris, Foundation Content, New Hat, General Editorial, POP Sound, Butcher Editorial, Union Editorial, The Mill, Mike Persichina, Patron, La Provence Bakery, Vitamin Water and Jordan Lister.
Guests sipped Patron cocktails at a drinks reception immediately following the screening – with talk of next year’s Pocket Fest already in full swing.
