The Hallway’s Cake Club takes top prize at Battle of the Ad Bands held last night in Darlinghurst

the winners.jpgThe Hallway’s rock band The Cake Club took out top prize at the 2012 Battle of the Ad Bands presented by The Communications Council and Flying Fish, held at the Oxford Art Factory in Darlinghurst last night.

The band dressed in 50s rockabilly-style outfits to perform three songs in the competition. The band’s name derives from The Hallway’s weekly sessions where a member of staff bakes a cake and is required to pitch it to the rest of the agency, presenting a strategic rationale and creative inspiration, with a compulsory reference to the famous French film director, Jacques Tati.

Cake Club.jpgThe Cake Club was fronted by Emma DiGiacomo (Singer/Dancer), Brad Bennett (Guitar/Keyboard/Singer), Darrell Tiemens (Singer), Sam Teoh (Singer/Dancer), Yuji Sekiya (Drums), Tony Sinclair (Bass/Singer), Adrian Grabicki (Guitar/Singer) and Cat Turley (Singer/Dancer).

 

Other bands that took to the stage were agency Invisible Artists -‘The Animals of Description’, Heckler’s ‘Awesome The Hallway The Cake Club.jpgWelles’, Saatchi & Saatchi band ‘RaveCave’ and Leo Burnett Sydney’s ‘Kings of Leo’.

 

Best band name went to ‘Awesome Wells’, and best costume went to ‘Kings of Leo’.

 

The judging panel consisted of music experts Paul Harris, senior A&R manager, and Ian Grady, international Invisible Artists The Animals of Description.jpgmarketing manager, from Sony Music Entertainment Australia.

 

The event was supported by Dubsat, Adsend and Substation, with prizes donated by Eardrum.

 

The Battle of the Ad Bands will return next year.
