The Distillery set to launch ‘Suburban Legends’ free charity event for The Starlight Children’s Foundation – 6pm Fri, Nov 30th in Darlinghurst

Sydney letterpress and design studio ‘The Distillery’ is holding a charity event to raise money for The Starlight Children’s Foundation in Darlinghurst – Friday, 30 November 2012, and continuing 1 and 2 December 2012. They will donate proceeds with a target of $30,000 dollars.

The event itself is a Poster Exhibition, held at The Distillery at 115 Crown Street, Darlinghurst. The posters will be printed by ‘Bertha’, one of The Distillery’s Letterpress printing machines. Each poster tells the story of a Sydney suburb that means something to the artist.

There are 13 artists exhibiting including: Vince Frost of Frost* Design, Christopher Doyle of Interbrand, Gemma O’Brien, Toby & Pete and Matt Huynh. A limited run of each of the artists’ designed posters will be printed and sold on the night. Proceeds and donations made will be forwarded to The Starlight Children’s Foundation.

Exhibition attendance is free and patrons who RSVP via suburbanlegends.com.au will receive a ‘letterpress showbag’ full of letterpress goodies. Letterpress branded beers and wines will also be served featuring: Wolfgang Lager, Klaus Pale Ale, Heidi Chardonay and Bertha Shiraz. These are the names of the presses in the studio, each with a different personality encapsulated by the drink and label.

This will be a great community event for Sydney based, creative professionals and artists with an interest in printmaking and illustration methods. The artwork on display will be a showcase of the best printed design Sydney has to offer, utilising the unique vintage letterpress method. Above all Suburban Legends is a charity event, so maximising attendance is of importance for maximising donation total to Starlight.
