Smart, Sydney has put to air a new spot for Mother, called Motherland, directed by new production team The Colony – with offices in Sydney and New York – which airs tonight during Underbelly: The Golden Mile on the Nine network.

More evidence that a big budget will never mask an average idea.
I almost prefer their previous work, and I HATED their previous work.
Makes me dizzy, not in a good way.
i saw this during the show, which was ordinary.
the show i mean.
the ad – fuccck. terrible.
motherland looks fun, i want to go there
Blurgh. A so-so idea, nice production values, but really crappy scenarios. 3/10 (+1 for getting Coney Island’s parachute jump in the ad though, makes me want to listen to Lou Reed right now).
at least they’ve stopped ripping of the red bull ads
Better than that god awful spot with all the chicks in wedding dresses.
absolutely crap.
I liked it. Suits the brand
Yet another bad ad that doesn’t have the names of the guilty who were involved.
Obviously knew the reaction it would probably get on CB.
Go Dan and Kieran!
I am sure Coke love it and the punters love it.
That is all that really matters.
I have to say I don’t mind the ad. It’s fun, y’know – not a world beater but not too bad -you can’t be too serious about this stuff.
The one thing that gets me is just the nazi feeling of the word ‘Motherland’ with that germanic typeface on the bottle and the red, black and white colour scheme going on. When it’s ‘mother’ by itself it sounds benign – but add the word ‘land’ on the end and a bit of a sinister feel begins to bubble underneath.
Am I the only one?
Well, at least it’s not Fatherland.
NEIN!
das ist Scheiße
DG left the Sweet Shop? Where was that press release?
Give us the old ads… they didn’t try so hard.
Lighten up everyone! At least this ad escapes the ‘wallpaper’ category – 90% of everything else on air is. I think it’ll work for the demographic.
I don’t mind the ad actually, i never thought id see an ad like that on tv… Its pretty much the ideal man’s world – which i kinda like. What did people think of the casting?
Waaay better than the Red Bull rip-off ads.
Still not great, but still waaaay better. Would have been a fun shoot.
The idea itself is ok. Casting is terrible. But it could be made ok with a re-edit. They should have shown some of the cool stuff out of context first, then revealed it was Motherland. The way it is, it feels rather trite. IMHO
Like it or not, you have to admit here’s an ad that knows exactly who it’s talking to.
If by some chance the Mother demographic is inhabited by pimply, sulky, imitation Burberry and oversized baseball cap-wearing Chav, gamer, skater, pre-criminal, wannabe rapper 14-year old boys wagging school to loiter around city malls and shopping centres, this ad will work a treat.
..fun shoot? Last time I at in an animation studio watching a 45 sec tvc render was pretty boring really.
The live action, meh.
Well i had the time of my life filming this commercial buddy. But thanks for the input. I guess you do know best.
Is there such a charge as ‘ rape of the senses’? Moments like these i wish for two things, a) my time that it wasted back and b) i wasn’t an Australian.
This ad’s got the pox.
People who drink stuff like mother really love all things loud, overblown, over the top and crass.
So perhaps sensitive souls like 4.03 shouldn’t really click on links that promise such an experience.
It’s a bit like going to a Ute festival and bitching about all the utes and stuff.
I’ll bet mother drinkers will love this. And I’ll bet drinkers of Tuscan sparkling mineral water probably won’t. And that’s the way it should be.
Hey 10:06, can you see the irony in shitbagging people for not putting their names on the press release, when your gutless, sniping comment is ‘anonymous’?
And the ‘reaction it would get on CB’ you speak of, is from twats like you.
I reckon it’s spot on for the demographic, and a tough client.
Fuck the CB Blog snipers.
Well done to the unnamed responsible.
Mick
motherland would kill you before you got the chance to have fun.
i drink mother for energy not to get burnt to death
The idea is great and it looks great but the acting it really corny and ruins it.
Motherland would kill you before you have the chance to have fun???? Are you kidding me 7:57? Its not a real place dude… Its a concept. You know? Like a make believe place!? Its not supposed to be realistic. Its supposed to be a bit of fun. Some of you anonymous folk really have NO idea. There should be a filter for those kind of comments…
I think its a fantastic ad, with emphasis placed on having a kick ass awesome time. The acting is really corny? I think the acting is spot on for what it is, they obviously werent trying for an oscar. I think that kid’s face in the dodgem car is hilarious.

“The acting is really corny? I think the acting is spot on for what it is, they obviously werent trying for an oscar.”
Argument FAIL
haha thats all you could think of to come back with?
Argument FAIL?
How funny. No retort? Nothing else constructive to add?
People used to be smarter in these blogs.
Its a hell of a lot easier to throw dirt on people when you hide behind the veil of anonymity isn’t it ya douche?

I don’t mind it. Personally I have a problem with ads that promote stereotypes of what men like and what men should be like. It doesn’t raise the societal bar in any way shape or form.
But that’s just my personal opinion. And I am a bloke that would probably prefer a herbal tea after some yoga than a can full of sugar, so I’m obviously not in the target market.
I think this ad is one of the best i’ve seen on TV for a while. It made me laugh, it made me like the brand, it made me remember the brand – and i’m not even in the core demographic.
so as far as effective advertising goes, this ad ticks all the boxes.
the other thing going in its favour is that the most CB readers predictably didn’t like it. Can’t help but think jealously is a factor – they didn’t create it so they mustn’t like it.
