Dear All,
Please take the time and SIGN THIS PETITION.
The Industry needs to collect as many signatures as it can – 5782 at last count with a target on 15,000 – by Friday 3 December to assist in lobbying the Australian Government to increase the tax offsets from 15% of qualifying Australian production spend to 30%.
If the Australian Government does not increase the tax offset, we are no longer competitive in attracting international productions to Australia.
Please send this on to anyone and everyone you know within the film industry. We need to join together to show the Prime Minister Julia Gillard that we love working in our industry and we want to continue doing so.

I’d like a tax break too.
But why should the Australian taxpayer subsidise me or an equally uncompetitive industry?
So here’s a thought, why not try increasing our efficiency and/or expertise so we don’t have to rely on being the Bangalore of film production?
How about producing fewer would-be directors every year?
How about investing in writers who can write films that people want to see?
Subsidies are offered all over he world – literally everywhere. FYI currently it’s a 48% tax return to shoot in Detroit. Govts. do forecasts on the multiplying effects on local economies just like investing in car production in Melb or farming in rural OZ. It’s a way govts can execute monietry policy to control and develop specific areas of the economy. Screen Oz does invest in writers BUT nothing like the amounts we invest in crappy wantabee Olympians at the institute of sport.
