SapientNitro, Brisbane has been shortlisted for a New York One Show Interactive award in the third quarter round of judging for its ‘Communication Shutdown’ campaign for the AEIOU Foundation, driving the shutdown of social networks to raise awareness of autism.

The Special Group New Zealand had two finalists for Orcon’s ‘Business Banner’.

The third quarter covers ads that were live from September-November with the winners to be announced in May.

The Orcon campaign dramatizes why their no-contracts approach to business gives New Zealand companies the freedom to grow and change. To do this, they shrunk an office down and placed it into a banner and made it interactive. Viewers could watch mini-episodes of office life, covering everything from new business wins through to escaped convicts and office meltdowns.

‘Communication Shutdown’ aimed to raise awareness that people with autism find social communication a challenge, they prompted the first global shutdown of social networks to rouse empathy and raise funds.

SapientNitro invented the chapp (charity app) which people made a donation to receive. It signalled shutdown on Facebook and Twitter and became a channel to spread messages and build awareness.

The campaign reached 164 countries in its first year. There was no media budget. Just a lot of people power. The award was entered by SapientNitro’s Miami office but the campaign was conceived and executed by SapientNitro Brisbane for their local client.
