Sam Cable: Serviceplan, Hamburg Diary #5

SERVICEPLAN DIARIES 5a.jpgSam Cable is a copywriting student at Miami Ad School Sydney, currently interning at European ad agency Serviceplan, Hamburg as part of her portfolio course.

Guide to surviving an internship: Always deliver more than expected. If they ask for 20 headlines, give them 30. If they ask for some prints, include a long copy option. Write supporting copy that makes it impossible for designers to treat as an object, and strategists to ignore. Write manifestos to be performed instead of thrown in the bin. Always deliver more than expected, and be brave enough to draft a new chapter.

SERVICEPLAN DIARIES graphic 5b.jpgThis week, the brief is to produce campaigns for both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. Let us just say the folks here at the agency are getting really well acquainted with this market. I do not object at all. Rafael Martins and I are also working hard on a few other brands, particularly in the wearable technology section. The best thing about this internship is creating material that will have the potential to contribute to the brand. We have been crafting ideas, putting them in pitch documents, and have the opportunity to directly discuss our concepts with the creative director on the account. That is why our Internship Fact for this week’s Serviceplan Diaries is, ‘always deliver more than expected’. We want to show them everything we have to offer.

The city of Hamburg is beautiful and is in such a great location for travel. On the weekends, I am taking the opportunity to dash around and tick off some things from my bucket list. Next up on the travel itinerary is Eastern Europe.

I graduate at the end of the year and cannot wait to keep developing my portfolio because you never know which city you may end up in.

Is a bright future,

Measured in light bulb moments,

Or voltage power?
