Sam Cable: Serviceplan, Hamburg Diary #2

SERVICEPLAN DIARIES 2a (1).jpgSam Cable is a copywriting student at Miami Ad School Sydney, currently interning at European ad agency Serviceplan, Hamburg as part of her portfolio course.

The second week at Serviceplan went off with a bang. Sticky notes, late nights, and an unrecognisable scrawl on every single piece of paper within a 3-meter radius: A typical week at the agency, they tell me. Being a part of the Innovation Team has allowed both my art director and me to really craft our concepting skills. Every day we are searching for communication channels, behavioural insights, and technologies for creating new ideas.

For the next 3 months of our internship, my art director, Rafael Martins from the São Paulo Miami Ad School, will be helping me with my Serviceplan Diaries. Each week he will feature a typography piece with a little insight about our time working in Hamburg. This week’s topic is about the importance of generating good ideas.

Ideas are mysteries. We all know that. Ideas can manifest any time, anywhere. An idea can roar down the mountainside in a manic, dust-stormed stampede viciously searching for the first person who can bring it to life. The idea enters the brain of the creative, illuminating trillions of connections, making every fragment of inspiration synchronise. But sometimes, without warning, the idea can vanish and leave exactly the way it came. It wafts back over the mountainside, looking for another creative waiting to bring it to fruition. Next time the idea tries to make an escape, try grabbing it by the tail.
