Rolf the face of new Wild Oats wine campaign
Octogenarian mates, iconic entertainer Rolf Harris and winemaker Bob Oatley, have come together to celebrate their creative professions in the new Wild Oats wine ‘discover it your way’ campaign.
As a result of their friendship, shared values and mutual respect for each other’s respective life long craft, Harris has agreed to be the face of the campaign which will be his first brand TVC in Australia since British Paints over 25 years ago.
Filmed in London, the TVC was developed by Robert Oatley Vineyards’in-house creative team led by Bob Oatley’s grandson, James Oatley, andVasili Koutlis.
The two-month advertising campaign will run across cinema (from 7October), TV (from 24 October), digital and point-of-sale and will besupported by retailer activity, Qantas lounge sampling and databasemarketing. Media buying, handled by MPG, will focus on lifestyle andin-flight media.
SaysHarris: “In my 80th birthday year, I’ve stepped in front of the camerafor my friend Bob Oatley and am doing something I really love, painting… but with a twist! I first met Bob when I painted hisportrait for his 80th birthday a few years ago and I admire his artform which is winemaking. I do believe that a great glass of wine is awork of art.”
“Wild Oats wines are excellent and, of course, aremy favourite. I’m also proud to support an Australian winemaking iconsuch as Bob Oatley and his family,” said Harris.
Says Oatley:”Rolf is a great Australian personality with an extraordinary outlookon life and I knew we had a unique shot of creating something special. He had the confidence to discover and enjoy the wine his way -incorporating our wine into one of his paintings was a special momentfor us to capture.”

he’s a legend, great painter
Maybe they should consider using a agency next time.
Sorry, but wasn’t Rolf the “face” of the 2&5 fruit/veg campaign a couple of years back?
I just lost an eye.
What does this say about the wine? It’s not good? And what’s with that creepy laugh at the end?
Bad advertising, bad idea,”in-house creative team” with your grandson says it all.
Imagine Apple, Coke, Mercedes Benz, IBM, you name it using their second generation siblings to create an ad campaign for their brand, and expecting it to enhance the value of what they sell?
Thing is Vittoria just did an ‘in-house” and many others have done so with various degrees of success going back to the early 90s with the Joico brand of hair products. However, I wouldn’t feel threatened yet.
When you’re worth $1b, you can do anything you want.
Oatley’s OK. He owns whippets.
I’ve had a glass of Wild Oats, I’d suggest drinking it about as often as you attend a Rolf Harris concert.
Can you tell what it is yet?
Seems we should reconsider anything James Oatley does after what happened at Manly Cove on new years day 2011, see the smh article attached or search google for james oatley manly attack
