Resolution opens new Surry Hills studio and appoints Jonathan Dearing in head of 3D role and Bertrand Polivka to the role of lead compositor

Resolution has announced the opening of their new studio situated at 410 Crown Street, Surry Hills and hires Jonathan Dearing in head of 3D role as well as Bertrand Polivka in lead compositor role.

Set in the heart of bustling Surry Hills, the once headquarters for fashion designer, Leona Edmiston has been given a new design purpose and transformed into an open plan, full service, HD post-production, VFX, design & production studio.

Moving from three levels to one will create a totally streamlined and integrated workflow between the production, 2D & 3D departments, something executive producer, Kent Boswell is relishing.

Says Boswell: “With everyone on the same floor, communication is enhanced tenfold and little changes can be made with ease”, says Boswell. “Answers are instant and creative discussions can flow naturally. We’re all really excited about the new Res and the way it will improve all facets of the business.”

Tim Dyroff, creative director used the move as an opportunity to implement state-of-theart- technology throughout the building, leaving no stone unturned in its research & design. Using custom-built software and infrastructure, the spacious and private client suites can all be operated from any workstation in the studio, allowing designers to move projects instantly between suites. Resolution are now able to ʻhot seatʼ each workstation allowing the relevant team (working on any particular project) to all work together and more importantly collaborate on ideas.

Says Dyroff: “The move has been over a year in the making. I think we inspected over 50 spaces before we found this one. It felt like such an impossible task to find somewhere that ticked all the boxes, and even harder when looking in Surry Hills, but we’ve done it, and I know we’ve got a gem.”

The character filled Bussell Bros building was built in 1939. Period features are part of the appeal of the new Resolution office, a perfect combination of old meeting new.

Resolution will also be an Eco friendly space, utilising natural light and ventilation, rather than air conditioners where possible. A comfortable client area and formal boardroom table with a fully operational presentation screen completes the studio. The new space also offers secure off-street client parking below, which is great for such a bustling area.

Surrounded by Sydneyʼs top bars and eateries, Resolution sits within a hive of activity, connected by all manners of public transport. With only a 10-minute walk to Central Station, and buses direct to the City, the beach or the airport on the doorstep. This new location has it all.

The new location will house new appointments, Dearing and Polivka effective immediately.

Dearing (left) kicked off his career as a film technician and on-set VFX operator. Following eight years behind the camera, his interest was pricked by post-production, and he joined GMD to develop ʻFarscapeʼ, sparking a love for 3D.

After a short stint at Post Modern, Dearing settled in at Animal Logic, where he was recognized on an international platform with his contributions on films such as ʻHappy Feetʼ, ʻ300ʼ and ʻAustraliaʼ, before joining Iloura as VFX supervisor.

Dearing’s tactile interaction with the camera, and his expansive knowledge of post uniquely positions him with a combination of practical and creative skills. Dearing specialises in previs, on-set supervision, animation and VFX.

Polivka (left) developed his distinct style when training as a cinematographer, having started out in the Paris fashion industry as a photographerʼs assistant. In 2001, Polivka followed his instinct and began his compositing career as a flame artist at Teletota, before moving onto Snarx-fx in Paris.

In 2006, Polivka joined The Lab/Digital Pictures/Iloura compositing team and fine-tuned his skills working on a long list of commercials. His wealth of experience in VFX, features, TV, design, commercials, and experimental projects add a distinctive zest to his work.
