Campaign Brief 447.pngRay Ali, a Clemenger BBDO graduate, has won the ‘stockvertising’ competition and a place in the 2 year Diploma course in copywriting or art direction at Miami Ad School Sydney.

Ali used the Getty’s stock photo of a middle aged man walking through a field with cows dressed in a tutu  to create an ad for a well-known anti hangover brand with the slogan: “Ever had one of those nights?”

His ad received the highest point score from a shortlist of 20 entries judged on originality, storytelling, salesmanship and emotion evoked.

The Stockvertising competition which was developed by Amnesia Razorfish and supported by Getty’s images, posed the challenge to find creative ways to fuse brands to seemingly irrelevant stock images.  It received more than 280 entries.

The winning entry was decided by a panel of seven industry heads, Todd Sampson, Iain McDonald, Craig Davis, Matty Burton, Adam Ferrier, Tom Moult and Tom McFarlane..

Iain McDonald said: “Product and Stockvertising image working like hand in glove. This was a popular choice of Stockvertising image but I think Ray nailed it.”

M&C Saatchi regional creative director, Tom McFarlane, said it was a story well told and a good brand fit.

Says McFarlane: ” It’s also very funny. Hey we’ve all had those nights.”

Todd Sampson concurred: “It made me smile because you could image that night. Good one”

Adam Ferrier, founding partner, Naked Communications, added: “Simple and creative and I love it. Gets the proposition across clearly.”

After completing his first year at Miami Ad School Sydney, Ali will have the opportunity to study in any of the school’s overseas locations, and intern in agencies all over the world.

The 2011 Gunn Report named the Miami Ad School the most awarded advertising school in the world.  It is also the first global advertising college to open in Sydney
