Photographers capture ‘eternal life’… without a camera in third video for Canon via Leo Burnett

Screen Shot 2015-12-11 at 7.48.16 am.jpgAs a photographer, what would you do if you were invited to a photo shoot location but you weren’t allowed to bring your camera along? This is the challenge that Canon Australia set to a team of photographers in Mindframe – the third video from Canon’s six-part creative content series titled, The Lab via Leo Burnett Sydney.

Screen Shot 2015-12-11 at 7.48.37 am.jpgCreated with the aim to shift photographers’ creative thinking behind the lens, Canon’s new Mindframe video highlights the importance of encouraging aspiring photographers to previsualise first and shoot later to create fewer but more meaningful images.

To showcase this, Canon invited a team of photographers to a cemetery and tasked them to capture a single image on the theme of ‘Eternal Life’ without using a camera. The goal was for the photographers to frame the image in their mind, previsualising and sharing ideas with each other along the way.

According to The Lab series director, Chris Ireland from The Pool Collective, in a world polluted with trivial images, taking multiple images with a camera is simple but creating an image in your mind to capture that one perfect shot before you press the shutter is very difficult.
