Passionfruit Collective + Smetana Photography collaborate on music video for 1 Million Women
Passionfruit Collective’s lead composer/producer Ken Francis and Sydney photographer/director Andreas Smetana have created a music video to highlight the climate action movement 1 Million Women. 1MW is a 250,000-strong organization empowering women and girls in climate action and sustainable living, founded by Australian Natalie Isaacs.
The video features women and girls from around the world underscored by a novel re-interpretation of the classic 80’s anthem “You’re the Voice” produced by Francis, and sung by vocalists Deni Hines, Wendy Matthews, Melinda Schneider, actor/singer Ursula Yovich [Redfern Now], and a choir of young women from the Australian Institute of Music Sydney.
Since the video launched on November 25th, it’s had nearly 500,000 views online, has been shown at the Gender Day event at the recent UN COP21 conference in Paris, featured on national morning TV shows for both CH7 & CH 9, and the singers & AIM choir performed the song live to a throng of 40,000 plus in Sydney’s Domain at the recent People’s Climate March concert.
Francis heads The Passionfruit Collective, a new full-service audio & music production company additionally featuring performer/composers Rebecca O’Brien [aka Darby], Sam Marynissen [aka S∆Y∆] and DJ/producer Luke Warren, alongside audio post wizard Peter McCorquodale. The collective launched in October this year and operates from studios in Glebe Sydney.
