International Creative Services chief Anne Miles offers producer certification + endorsement – training starts in Syd Jan 17 and Melb Jan 18
Anne Miles (left), general manager of The DMC Initiative and owner/executive producer/buyer of the newly launched International Creative Services (ICS) has organised the first certification and endorsement standards for producers. Only the industry’s best are invited to become the world’s first endorsed producers at the first intake of training in Sydney January 17th and in Melbourne January 18th 2013.
Producers will be certified as an ICS Approved Producer with endorsements in each specialty like agency, film company, post production or visual effects based on experience. ICS has a code of conduct and ethics for all producers to follow, as well as standardised processes. Miles is on hand as a mentor and advisor on all projects that come through ICS. Producers need to go through an approval process and are not guaranteed participation or certification unless they meet experience criteria. Training is for experienced producers only including a one day training in ICS processes and will need to submit a written paper for assessment.
With larger agencies downsizing and more mid to smaller businesses, including many direct clients, sourcing from a growing list of freelance producers or looking for new production solutions, it is becoming more and more difficult for the right talent to be differentiated.
Miles is the lead trainer having had over 30 years industry experience across agency, film company, post production and visual effects industries. Miles has held previous roles as head of TV at agencies McCann-Erickson, J.Walter Thompson and Grey Worldwide, owner/partner of Exit Films, and as a visual effects producer at Fuel VFX. Miles is also a trained business coach.
Says Miles: “I believe that the industry’s talent problems are not always that there is a lack of talent, but that the right talent is being overlooked. I’d like to think that with better differentiation between producers the best people will be chosen for the right job. I often find that many clients and inexperienced agency staff don’t realise the importance of specialisation in producers and often hire the wrong people or hire producers with a vested interest in using certain suppliers which doesn’t always serve the client. I’d like to think that I’m making a difference for the industry by differentiating the standards and experience of producers as a good starting point.”

I thought only the best were being invited from the original press release.
The best do not need to be endorsed. Their name is their brand.
Why is a virtual cost consultant offering to certify anyone for anything?
Talk about PR ‘without portfolio’, this is a Plush legacy and a Fuel hire for fifteen minutes, with indelible stains from both experiences, trying to pass as capable of judging standards of production and post production?
Please.
take your certificate, and
What a complete load of bullshit. The best talent doesn’t need some invented certification that isn’t recognised by a single professional body in the world. Utter nonsense.
No producer worth his salt would ever consider being ‘endorsed’ by this.
Please Michael, don’t humour this nonsense any further. After consulting with other Heads & seniors it embarrassing… Stop it in it’s tracks now and don’t make a mockery of what little dignity production has left in this industry.
I’m there!
Please make sure your certificate is printed using extra soft paper.
utterly ridiculous.
Oh dear you just keep trumping folly with folly.
I love this point on why one should do the course:
“Be more attractive to clients so they choose you and not the next producer”
You should market yourself as a beauty school also.
cb.
Why do I need to pay money for a piece of paper which does not reflect the years of hands on experience which is required to do my job.
I agree with ‘are you serious’ …please Michael….
This is preying on the young and inexperienced who do not understand this certificate is not industry endorsed (except for maybe P3???) and paying for and having it could do damage to their career. Worthless.
The industry knows a competent producer does not happen overnight and is built on years of training from ones department head, other seniors and experience.
This is humiliating and needs to be stopped.
complete rubbish.
The best endorsement any producer can have is from the creative teams whose work its their responsibility to nurture through the production process.
This ‘certificate’ and supposed approval of one person setting themselves up as judge and jury is an insult to the experienced producers expected to apply.
Who are you to tell me how to do my job??
I wonder what old Kent Sheldon would think of this?
How terribly embarrassing.
It’s like witnessing a tragedy really, and you can’t help but feel pity.

Even tips supplied for us all on how to deal with each other. Oh to be a god.
What a load of old bollocks.
Batshit Crazy doesn’t come nearly close enough to describing this ongoing episode.
Certifiable, however, might just do.
… it was waiting for me at the bottom of my Corn Flakes box.
I can’t wait to tell everyone that I am now ‘officially’ a Producer!! So excited!!
You can’t help but admire the chutzpah on display here.
start up a one-person consultancy, put the word International in the title, act as the only voice of authority and reason for an entire industry, and through the power of relentless positivity, hope to turn wishful thinking into a profitable career.
This is the kind of thing those dickheads at ‘STOP DREAMING AND DO!! BECOME THE PERSON YOU WERE DESTINED TO BE!!!’ seminars teach. Who knows, in this instance it just may work.
it’s still a bunch of bollocks though.
UNLEASH THE PRODUCER WITHIN !
oh dear dear dear …. Anne what are you doing to your own reputation and to all of us producers who have spent years buidling up good reputations and reels !!??!!
Our industry is flooded with wannabes and poor sods whose mum and dads have forked out hundreds to thousands of dollars for some worthless piece of paper by some money grabbing training school pumping out untalented and unskilled people.
Maybe you could suggest to the ACS they do a one day course with an exam at the end for $550 for their certification.
Come on … $550 for what !!?? The only way certification works if it’s damn hard to be certified – that applicants have solid work experience, a body of work to show for it and many industry professionals who testify for their ability and work ethic. And it has to be bestowed by an authority with credibility. None of those criteria seem to get a tick in any of your boxes.
You think yourself is very smart, bull shit. You are joke.
