NMIT Screen and Media Students on the home straight to produce Foxtel and TAB content

Screen shot 2010-09-22 at 9.37.26 PM.pngStudents enrolled in Screen and Media courses at NMIT (Northern Melbourne Institute of TAFE) Collingwood campus will produce 1.5 hour episodes of the weekly racing show, Racing Review.

The program, produced in partnership with McGuire Media, will be broadcast on Sunday mornings commencing in September for racing channel TVN via Foxtel and through the TAB Agency Network.

The students, currently studying the Advanced Diploma of Screen andMedia learn in NMIT’s state-of-the-art, High Definition, broadcastquality production studios and use video production equipment usedcommonly in the industry and to industry standards.

“These production partnerships provide a huge advantage for anyonelooking to enter into the TV broadcast industry,” says Darren Steffen,Screen and Media Program Coordinator at NMIT. “Experiences like theproject with McGuire Media provide our students with direct links tothe industry and real industry experience and they graduate withpractical skills and screen credits to launch their careers.”

NMIT is a well-regarded provider of highly skilled practitioners in theTV broadcast and video production industry and the Institute’s Screenand Media courses have been developed in close collaboration with theindustry.

Courses involve production partnerships with third party clients likeMcGuire Media from a variety of sectors, including corporate video,government and TV broadcasting.

As a result, NMIT has a proven track record with graduates findingemployment as camera operators, editors, directors, producers, floormanagers, lighting assistants and as other technicians.  

“It’s not just the students that benefit,” adds Steffen. “Theproduction partnerships are equally as rewarding for industrypractitioners, who get to impart knowledge, mentor a young person andhelp them launch their career.”
