New WA Tourism ‘Taxi Ride’ campaign – via Host, Sydney – set to launch February 7

According to an article in The West Australian, WA Tourism’s new ‘taxi ride’ campaign will be launched on February 7.
Already the direction the campaign seems to be heading in – with shades of the Queensland Tourism ‘Best Job in the World’ campaign, except the WA version is seeking a local taxi driver to travel around the state for $25,000 – has attracted several negative comments on the Campaign Brief WA blog.
The WA industry is still seething that the account was awarded to an Eastern States agency back in July last year.

Ah, no Host, I don’t wish to be in the middle of a desert with a taxi driver.
Thanks anyway.
I hate to be one of the negative pricks on this blog but that is not a good ad.
The only thought that cones to kind when I see this is “so that’s why I can’t get a taxi at the airport”
WA has two major flaws as a destination:
shit taxis and the fact that it’s a desolate place with nothing yo do.
Not sure why anyone would put the two together to promote the state.
the best taxi job in the world,
Umm, irony much? Using a taxi to attract tourists to a city with a major cab crisis…
Pity the tourist who wishes to get a cab after an evening out on the town, much less to get out of the airport.
Clearly the guys at Host haven’t actually travelled to the west and experienced that kind of frustration for themselves.
Wish you could come up with a new campaign idea?
This Idea sounds pretty similar with Zoo magazines cab journey in the UK.

Hope they’ve given it a unique spin.
Our agency was involved in the pitch, and I can tell you that the client basically wanted “the next world’s best job”.
So I’m not surprised that they’ve wound up with a derivative campaign. Because that’s where they started.
As for wanting to ride in a taxi?? Jesus – ten minutes in one is about all I can take. Why the fuck would I want to ride around in an australian taxi for any longer than strictly necessary? What’s second prize: carting waste-oil from fish ‘n chip shops for a month?

Genious. Get an Indian taxi driver to act as an australian tourist guide. Makes sense. Not.
Nah first prize should have been a week in Perth, second prize two weeks.
Why couldn’t they have made it for a limo driver? More opportunity for fun, I reckon.
I had a shitty late night cab experience in Perth.
At least in Melbourne they stop and ask you where you’re going before driving off if the fare isn’t good enough.
Haha…
If it’s a typical Perth taxi driver you’ll get in the cab and end up in Sydney by mistake.
WA Tourism FAIL.
