Megan Washington unleashes street art for Dell TVC via Mediacom Beyond Advertising, Sydney
Dell, via Mediacom Beyond Advertising, Sydney, has launched a new TVC and web film directed by Taxi Film director Stephen Lance, shot in Brisbane, which opens up an inspirational and interactive world of performance and street art for Dell.
Sitting smack-bang in the middle of all the fun is the so-hot-right-now Megan Washington and her piano.
Treating the world as a canvas, the spot is inspired by, and features, Washington’s song ‘Cement’. Lance draws on the bold, rebellious and romantic tune to create a vivid world of performance, art and music to reflect the new Dell XPS design featuring street art by top international designers.
The concept sees Washington literally treat the world as her canvas as she creates a tapestry of colour on the walls, footpath and road with her movements – singing and dancing her way down a city street. The New York background was added in post.
Says Lance: “I wanted to create an interactive world of performance and street art that would harmonise with the new Dell XPS design… The design of the artwork is inspired by Megan’s song ‘Cement’, which is both bold and rebellious, and darkly romantic.”

crap!
and you had to travel to NYC to shoot that!?!!
wow, good on you.
soooo sick of seeing this girls head everywhere. sickening.
great work!!
It’s just like that gay tampon ad from a while back.
Cute. Well done.
old concepts running over and over an overrrrrrrrr again…
Wow!
How did she even… that awesome street art came out of her arms! Oh man, there’s nothing like a bit of street art to speak to today’s youth.
Trust a PC company to approve such a boring, overdone concept.
“Mediacom Beyond Advertising” – That looks and sounds a lot like a media buying agency trying to turn into a creative one.
Except for the fact that this is a bit shit, it does sound a little warning shot to creative agencies I would suggest.
I wonder if WPP would be so flexible if a couple of its creative agencies started media buying?
Why so much hate 4.49? After all, the unmistakable concrete of NYC creates the perfect backdrop for Megan’s black-clad silhouette and distinctly nymph-like demeanor. And what of that lustrous, boyish hair, failing to conceal her overt femininity?
Try some love instead. It’s Valentine’s Day.
Dearest 5:08…are you certain that’s not love-sick? Those azure eyes, framed by a generous application of mascara, are enough to intoxicate anyone. And what about the way she runs her aristocratic fingers across those coarse bricks? It’s enough to give you goose-pimples…
Why not shed the cocoon of hate and let love spread it’s wings? It’s Valentine’s Day.
They say familiarity breeds contempt jono (6.17), but surely there is still a little room left in your heart for Megan’s angelic song? Or what about the way she deftly caresses the keys of her piano, whipping them into a frenzy of ecstatic melody?
Let love eclipse your state of hate. It’s Valentine’s Day.
A tip for media agencies wanting to transform themselves into full-service advertising agencies.
You may want to consider investing in creative people with talent to make the work.
Washington? Really? horrible ad, terrible ‘artist’.
Ah, Jimmy, but how graceful those street-art emanating arms are! How fabulous they would feel wrapped tightly around your flared latissimus dorsi, as you yourself re-connect with your youth!
Say yes to love. No to hate. It’s Valentine’s Day.
Dear 6.37, the only shot should be from cupid’s benevolent bow. Relinquish any feelings of ill-will you may be harbouring, forgive the bit that’s shit and turn yourself into a champion of the only thing we all need…LOVE.
Because it’s Valentine’s Day.
Oh 8.56! Terrible is such a strong word. Couldn’t we, just for today, turn ‘terrible’ into ‘terriffic’? Abandon the desire to chastise and instead channel some pure, unadulterated love?
After all, it’s Valentine’s Day.
#The Artline Love Translator – shut the fuck up. This work is shite so stop defending it with your incessant ramblings.
What’s wrong with you people, dont you have anything better to do than complain? It’s quite a good music video but I have to admit the laptops at the end where a bit confusing.
Megan Washington is the perfect person for this. Her pseudo ‘individuality’ appeals to teenagers who also want to appear as individuals. Not to mention that this is more of a music video than an ad, which is something that the target demo will find refreshing and will more likely respond to positively. I don’t particularly like her or the song, but she is flavour of the month and will both attract attention and move product.
Dell are just doing what Apple did when they launched the first iMac in 5 colours. They are taking a boring design and allowing people to personalise it so it becomes an accessory. It’s a tried and true method of expanding our brand.
I can’t believe that people are getting on campaign brief and complaining about the mass commercialisation of street art & Megan Washington. If it really bothers you, you’re working in the wrong industry.
Nice work. Brisbane never looked so good on screen.
My dear 8.36…how I love it when you swear at me! I can feel my protuberances firming each time I re-read your curmudgeonly outburst. But the only thing I am defending is the concept of love triumphing over hate. It’s merely 24-hours since Valentines Day and the love is still flowing…
A Spec ad shot in Brisbane’s only Alley way, with a still photo of the Brooklyn Bridge pasted in the background.
Plus some nice graphics.
I think he did well. 🙂 (yes very tampon ad) but done good for probably a piss week personal budget.
Congrats for trying to impress.
Keep them coming.
apple colours were a decade ago……a decade ago so how can 9.37am say this is cool.
well shot poor outdated creative.
As for the valentines day hippy lover freak, I suspect you need to get a real girlfriend rarther than spending to much time with your pillow and pam and the five sisters if you catch my drift. Are you roaming the streets?I hope not
wow
Great well done..
I really like your post..
6:03 PM Gay tampons… now THERE’S an idea!
9:37 AM What you described isn’t advertising, it’s research. When done properly, advertising isn’t fucking rocket science. I smell cufflinks and a cheap suit.
