M&C Saatchi Melbourne plants sustainable idea in the heads of potential Swinburne engineers
These posters were part of the advertising for Swinburne University ofTechnology’s Engineering Faculty at their Open Day. The universityplaces a particular emphasis on sustainability in the way they trainnew engineers.
Working from a very tight budget, M&C Saatchi,Melbourne created an advertising piece that used a location one alwaysfinds in a university – a wall that’s been plastered over with layers ofbill posters for various concerts, rallies and events. They also pickedplants that are native to Australia and that require minimal wateringideal for the current drought conditions.

Tight idea on a tight budget. Nice one.
very nice, kinda, no wait… exactly like this:

Ok, so there’s a plant there. Plants are green so that’s like – sustainable!
Why would anyone imagine that these plants are going to remain in place? The next poster run will rip them down. Dead plants.
All talk no trousers, this one.
The Toronto execution had no purpose. At least this one conveys a strong message. Nice job.
Oh for goodness’ sake.
Why are you all so negative? Nice simple idea, well done.
Simple and powerful.

The message is sustainability. How is buying a plant and sticking on a wall which is constantly covered over with new posters every few days an example of sustainability?
Sustainable? Stop wasting paper for posters. Find a more environmentally friendly way of getting the message out. Not terrible. Certainly not great.
Not bad for an agency that was just decapitated!
That Manscove is a dreamboat.
Or is it Flangmauve?
I get confused.
Either way, he’s talented and handsome.
Mostly handsome.
XXXX
Don’t stress there will be more unoriginal ideas coming out of M&C now that Steve has gone
9:42 – everything’s been done
it’s not where you take it from, it’s where you take it to.
you can quote me on that
This idea is so forced even Vaseline wouldn’t help.
If this is the work that builds an agency’s creative credentials (which clearly is its intention given it is posted here), then god help them and our industry. It’s hardly a killer demonstration of how creativity in communications can solve key challenges businesses and organizations face.
Did anyone read the copy on the poster?

I don’t think so, NO!
What exactly is your point 6:33?
I can’t believe some of the ruthless comments made here. It’s a nice simple idea that would give people a pleasant surprise as they walked by. The average Joe won’t think about whether a poster execution has been done before in Europe and they won’t wait around for weeks to see exactly how sustainable the poster is. Seriously, some of you need to get off your high horses and extract whatever’s stuck up your arses. This whole website is a black hole of negativity. And no I don’t work for M&C.
Got to love CB. The place where shit creatives go to bitch about other peoples work because they are incapable of doing great work themselves.
Better idea for an Interflora poster.
find interesting work/project done by a little known artist, retro fit to existing client, sell to client. repeat.

10:34 Amen.
I’m guessing if everyone loved it then they wouldn’t be shit creatives and they’d probably be capable of doing great work?
Why do defenders always fall on the ‘you’re too shit to know a good idea, and you do shit work’ sword?
Do I need to spell it out for you 9:24…? (emphasis on SPELL IT OUT)
I believe you could’ve saved yourself the trouble and assumed that was the reason I asked in the first place.
If you have no point to make then I can understand why you chose instead to shout about spelling.
