MADC Awards announce new junior category
This year’s MADC awards have a couple of new categories, including the inaugural Junior of the Year Award.
MADC President Richard Ralphsmith (pictured) said the new category was part of the Club’s strategy to help foster young talent in advertising, design and photography.
“People with less than three years’ experience in the business get the crappiest briefs. But the best juniors make something out of everything they’re given. It’s about time they were recognised,” he said.
“And in recognition of junior level salaries, the MADC Junior category entry fees are half the price of general entries,” Ralphsmith added.
The other additions to this year’s awards include a new MADC Award for Craft in Retouching and changes to the Sound Design category – it’s now split into Craft in Sound Design for TVC/Cinema and Craft in Sound Design in a Radio Commercial, recognising the different skills required for each.
The Junior category is sponsored (naturally) by Junior, a web resource for young creatives that celebrates life at the bottom.
Anyone with less than three years’ experience in their particular field can enter. That means junior copywriters, art directors, designers, photographers, illustrators, directors, audio engineers and people from any other creative area can enter. Work entered in this category can be just about anything – a print ad, TVC, radio campaign, logo design, photograph.
For agency entries, all creatives who worked on the work, with the exception of the CD, must have less than three years’ experience.

and no – I have nothing to do with junior, but from what I understand, they’re doing something positive for the industry which in my opinion should be applauded, not slagged
