Jungleboys takes time out for Black Dog Institute’s Exercise Your Mood Week TVC

Screen shot 2011-09-13 at 12.18.28 PM.jpgA short time ago, the Black Dog Institute embarked on shooting a commercial with Jungleboys, the production company, for Exercise Your Mood Week (this week, September 12th – 18th).

The spot was based on the research that regular exercise could be as effective for treating mild to moderate depression as anti depressants.

The spot starts with the focus on a man with a large black dog of depression. As he hauls himself out of the house and embarks on an early morning jog, a large black dog follows. As he warms up into his run the dog reduces in size until it’s a puppy. With the line saying ‘Exercise Your Mood and bring the black dog down to size.’

They say never work with children or animals – getting a dog (make that 3 of them) to do something on cue takes patience and a sack full of doggie treats.

For example as the man runs across the park in the final seen, Flynn the puppy followed him perfectly on the first take and then wouldn’t do it again no matter how hard we bribed him. In the end they all behaved brilliantly.

Special thanks to Jungleboys for making this happen. The Black Dog Institute would like to offer a special thank you to all those people who donated their time and money in making this commercial:
