iSelect launches explosive second instalment of new ‘Billusionist’ campaign via Fenton Stephens
After kicking off its 2019 health insurance campaign with a talking dove and a flurry of ninja star bills flying towards a man strapped to a spinning board with an apple on his head, iSelect’s Billusionist this time materialises a cannon in a couple’s lounge room before taking a ‘cannon bill’ to the face. Then he levitates through the ceiling.
Where the first spot took on the rate rise, the second via Fenton Stephens, tackles Federal Government regulatory changes to private health insurance which come into effect from today 1 April. No matter the issue, The Billusionist always has the right trick to shrink your bill.
Says Warren Hebard, chief marketing officer, iSelect: “While these government reforms are designed to simplify private health insurance, we know from speaking to our customers that many policy holders are really confused by the changes and worried they no longer have the right level of cover. Through the Billusionist, this second spot creatively positions iSelect as the solution for customers to cut through this confusion and be confident they have the policy best suited to their needs.”
The same team from Melbourne independent, Fenton Stephens, and Exit produced the spot. Directed by Michael Clowater, post was handled by Blockhead and sound design by Production Alley.
The third ad will be released in the coming months.

Enough already!
When will 1990’s advertising visual language die?
Comedy has evolved. Agencies need to stop this visual pollution.
Its a fucking insult to our intelligence.
I loled. Finding it hard to understand how anyone can get this upset about these.
ING, GE money genie, the various appearing twats for short term lending companies – nimble etc.
Basically personifying the brand as an entertaining clown.
But not a funny one.
Why get an American director in to do this?
… to direct this POS
You know what,
I’m a pretty harsh critic of my own work – and that of others. I’m no junior, nor am I a megawatt award winner, although I’ve won more than a few and far more than most – basically, I’d like to think my judgement is reasonably sound.
And I get Campaign Brief is just a slag-fest for the competition, out-of-worker / freelancers, heck even the team within the agency or the production company that missed out on the brief.
But these are pretty decent, entertaining TV spots. Memorable too.
I long for the days when this is the worst ad you’ll see on the box. I’m not sure I remember when that was, between my second wife or third.
I guess what I’m saying is – to the complainers – shut the fuck up. And to the people who made this – thanks for a bit of fun.
Glad somebody pulled their head out of their arse for a minute and wrote something normal people will laugh at.
Thanks.
the bitterness in the comments is unbelievable
it’s basically an insurance ad, have you guys ever watched an insurance ad (or better yet been tasked with making one)? these are a breath of fresh air in a world of boring
I agree, Take it Easy. This is fine. Yeah, too try hard and still too cluttered but it is far from the worst stuff you’ll see on TV. I would contend, however, Tired of edms, that GEICO has been making brilliant, funny insurance ads for years. As have Allstate. There is no reason an insurance ad should be boring.
I dig these ads. Everyone needs to chill out. Getting a funny, watchable ad up these days is getting harder and harder – these are great and the client is obviously a great one to work with. Well done FS.
different market, we’re a lot more conservative here. Other than cpt risky and these, can’t think of much else lately
