Host offers Rudd a solution – could be a Caxton
A topical ad following the ALP’s ousting of Kevin Rudd which was created by Host for IKEA, has been announced as the June/July winner of the Could Be a Caxton competition, established by the Caxton Committee and supported by The Newspaper Works to recognise and showcase great creativity on a bi-monthly basis.
Ben Welsh, executive creative director of M&C Saatchi and the judgeof the June/July competition, said: “A great use of newspapers, it mademe laugh”.
Two Highly Commended were also awarded:
Says Welsh: “Nike – a good adaptation of an international thought although it would haveworked better if the logo line was top left, inviting you to fill itin. Bottom right it could be a case of over indulging in white space. Pfizer – a cunning combination of medium and product.”

How is this clever?
It couldn’t be a more obvious pun if it hit you in the face.
VERY average.
Correction.
Below average.
The cackstains. It’s like AWARD circa 1985. Puns r us, even the judges are relics.
Made me laugh. Btw, Josh is the copywriter. Not the other way round.
“Cack stains”. That’s next month’s winner right there.

Reminds me of that old Volvo election ad
“The safest seats in NSW”
made me laugh, job done move on. It’s an ad.
Not sure what you lot are getting all deep about. It made me crack a smile when i saw it. A lighthearted & memorable tactical ad. A one-off bit of fun. Good stuff.
Boooo
Never let it be said that the Caxtons as a competition and press advertising in general have failed to innovate and move on as a media, thereby consigning themselves to an increasingly marginalised role essentially recognising the same idea re-worked year after year. Oh hold on… what’s this from 2007?

Nice. But not sure how reliable Ikea is, either.
Stupid pun that anyone could have thought of.
Been done before and much better:

To win a Caxton you need to do one of three things:
1, Use the medium – the gutter, date on top of page, newsprint.
2, Do something topical but lame – Goodbye Bush, or this Cabinet thing.
3, Something in the classifieds.
The idea doesn’t have to be that good really.
Just stating the facts.
Topical ads are fun for the punter, fun for the client and fun for the agency.
You got a problem widdat? Then keep on advertising to yourself.
I’d love to hear you plebs’ definition of a pun….
Go on, what exactly is a pun?
Drum roll / cymbal crash / vomit.
Fucking lazy. Just lazy. Not even a clever pun.
Oh how I hate the phrase “right there”.

If you’ve worked out the formula, why don’t you do it and win some awards? It’d look good on your resume next to all those awards from your Mum for your retail catalogues.
Perhaps an ad for a chefs knife from Ikea
“Kevin, a present from Julia.”
or if Abbot wins….
An ad for Red speedos
“The emperor’s new clothes”
An ad for Clairol hair colour
“Julia, we’re both front page news”
Too easy
yes 4.41, pretty easy to write. now go and sell one of those lines to one of those clients and you might be worth listening to.
just think, now you can do a ‘hung parliament’ gag for a wardrobe!

Lazy.
Ian those lines aren’t very funny.
, our furniture will last as long as your minority government
Could be a Caxton credit please.
A bad pun is a poor substitute for a good idea.
There are no good puns. Ever. Please stop. All of you.
How about this for a triple word score.
“In a hung parliament, our members could swing either way. But we’re open to both options.”
Fuck it, I’m calling Bob Brown for that speechwriting gig.
‘The importance of being earnest’. Now there’s a bad pun.
I don’t know who that imposter Ian is, but it isn’t The Real Ian!
I would never write those shit lines.
I’d write something like: ‘Hang your parliament in this. $199.’
Boom!
The Real Ian!
i would have wrote ‘Buy this wardrobe if you want a wardrobe thats like this one, oh and there’s an election on’. Never write ads without me again.
