‘The world loves Australian beef’, and to prove it, M&C Saatchi, Sydney went to New York to shoot its latest spot for Woolworths, which has just gone to air.

yawn.
The smartest thing the creatives did was write themselves a trip to New York.
Genius.
Great way to score a free trip to NYC.
Not bad for one of those types of ads.
The Americanization of Australia is almost complete. We just need to open ten more Mexican Restaurants and we’re done.
didn’t Sam Kekovich just go to new york for lamb?
Cynical boring tired old usual responses
Whats wrong with it?
why don’t you all top yourselves and save us the pain of reading your crap.
The ad is well done, captures the vibe of NY well and tells a good story.
Would you all have been happier if there was no logo, no branding and no product shots?
If you answer yes – get out of advertising.
Or top yourself.
looks like a Komed special, but who would know as there are no credits.
Genius line.For Frequent Flyers.
Looks a lot like a New Zealand sausage campaign from 2 years ago for Heller’s.

It’s for Woolworths. Probably the biggest client in Australia. Hats off for not making it shit. Oh, and for the trip.

Well done on getting a trip to New York on Woolies. Shoot probably only took a day but I am sure they were there for at least a week to sort out pre-pro.
My question is this though, why would the average Australian give a shit what the people in New York thought about our meat? In fact, there is a lot of anti-american sentiment out there so it could even be detrimental to Woolworths. It could even be perceived that Woolies are suggesting that we need the approval of Americans to say our beef is good, which pisses me off more than anything.
The idea is not well thought out in my opinion and will hopefully drive people to visit their local butcher.
As cynical and pessimistic and jaded as I am: I like it.
I think it’s sweet.
And great for a supermarket- just look at the crap Coles does.
and this one

No credits. Say no more.
Well done Darren Ashton, we love your work.
The people are gonna buy it in droves you clueless excuses for advertising professionals. It’s about Aussie pride. Not about anti-American sentiments.
Why buy Woolies beef?
Yanks love it.
That’s all there is to it. That’s the reason to buy and the differentiator (if you need one). Stop over-analysing it. Stop pretending to speak for the public when you’ve clearly no idea what appeals to them.
i think andy and shane did a good effective strategically sound job, for a big tough client.
whats wrong with being professionally good.
go the boys and dont listen to the people who are negative.
amongst the dross of normal ads this has feel good factor and makes me feel positive about woolworths.
i hope they brought me back a present.
jf.
woolies makes the large majority of their money from australian consumers, good to see them supporting the local economy in return.
My sister lives in Adelaide.
She’s not in advertising and couldn’t care less what advertising think or do.
She’s a mum who likes shopping at Woolies.
She loves the ad.
I couldn’t give a rats what New Yorkers think of Australian meat!?!?!?!
Nice junket.
Well done guys, why can’t I work on client’s who appreciate the need to shoot in NYC!
Cheers Furbs.
By the way, got you a cap.
Andy.
Reminds me of work we did for Red Rooster two years ago. Here’s the YouTube clip … http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FIZM2SosvcI and the 30 second ad is here… http://www.bestadsontv.com/ad_details.php?id=18710
Textbook script writing:
“We open on a busy NY city street…”
Oh god.
For fuck’s sake. Stop the shit youtube links. It’s so sad. Nobody remembers your fucking red rooster ads from years back and wants to copy them Mr Maclean.
This ad was great the first time i saw it 2 years ago for Hellers in NZ. But that one was better.
I gotta say that Red Rooster ad came to mind straight away. I think ‘creatives on a Junket’ pretty much summarises this paltry offering.
Hey there 1:56 Mr goddamn goldfish. If it’s been done, it’s been done. Just because it’s already leaked out of your tiny mind doesn’t mean the rest of us will forget about it too. Humans learn from history. It’s what sets us apart.
Once more in case you’ve already forgotten:

Ok, even if we buy the premise that Australians give a shit what other countries think about our beef, is NYC really the home of great steaks? Hamburgers maybe. Hot Dogs maybe. Pizza definitely. But steak?
Sorry, but when I think about foods synonymous with New York, steak isn’t the first that springs to my mind.
Wouldn’t Buenos Aires have been a better place for people to judge a good steak from a bad one? Or the gastronomic citizens of Paris?
I’m not even sure why I’m commenting on this infomercial. I’m just bored at work.

I think ‘Anonymous asshole on a blog’ pretty much summarises your paltry comment.
Hey it has to be a junket these days, can’t take it out of petty cash anymore.
Was it business or Premium economy?
Ads are ok for a woolies job, budget is probably pretty low since Apple tried to sue them for the logo.
2.59 I reckon Texas is the home of steak in the US?
2.59
I reckon this ad is the first of many. Oranges in Seville. Sausages in Munich. And why not? Good on the team for selling it in
That butcher’s no butcher. I’ve seen him in lots of ads.
I like the Red Rooster one much better…
Makes me sick to think how much these creatives got paid to just copy other people’s work…
Was This ad shot with a canon 5d mark 2 ? anyone
Theron, I assume it was shot on the 5D, it looks like it to me.
Great spot, made me smile. Well done Fleming.
Well done for getting the script up we all want.
‘We open on the copywriter and art director in an exotic location, sipping cocktails.’
But if I as a consumer was to trust someone to judge our beef, it would be in Tokyo at a Sashimi restaurant.
Americans are known for having very bad palates.
4 and a half stars. Good job guys, especially on Woolies.
Theron and Joe, my thoughts exactly when I saw the rolling shutter in the passing train, as well as the grain….
