Australia’s George Patterson Y&R Brisbane won Australia’s only Design Lion with Silver for Asia Pacific Breweries’ ‘Beer Coasters’. Australia had two shortlists in Design, the other one was for Landor Associates’ Good Company Coffee.

New Zealand’s three shortlists in Design picked up metal with ALT Group Auckland winning both Gold and Silver Lions for its Oakfield Press’ ‘The Vigneron’ campaign. Colenso BBDO Auckland also picked up a Silver Lion for Alzheimer’s ‘Eraser’.

The Grand Prix went to Happiness Brussels in Belgium for Toyota’s ‘iQ’.

“It is the essence of true design in all ways,” said jury president Steff Geissbuhler, a partner with C&G Partners in the US, reports The Lions Daily News

He added: “It is a typograph, it relies on technology, and it is very sophisticated and innovative.”

Happiness Brussels aimed to communicate the agility and control of Toyota’s new iQ to a target audience of 18- to 35-year-olds. In doing so, Toyota’s iQ became the first car in the world to create an entire font from A to Z.
