BEER_COASTERS.JPEGGPY&R Brisbane led the agency pack at this year’s Brisbane Advertising and Design awards held on Saturday night, taking out a total of 22 awards, including Best of Show for its Asia Pacific Breweries’ beer coasters.

The agency’s haul for 2010 included two golds, and seven silvers to eclipse last year’s record haul of 19 gongs at BAD. It also follows a clutch of awards this year from Cannes (the beer coasters won Silver Lion at the Design Lions), a One Show Merit, a Phoenix Film and Television Award Best of Show, a couple of Outdoor Awards as well as a London International Award Finalist.

GPY&R, Brisbane creative director Piet Human said the agency’s remarkable turnaround was due to a significant investment in new creative and digital talent and a fundamental change in the way the agency worked.

“Two years ago GPYR Brisbane won no awards. It won very few pitches. Business was good but creative output was far from great. Today it’s the most awarded agency in the market.”

With clients like Suncorp there seems to be a shared goal to keep raising the standard of work we produce, which is great. There can’t be a standard for Queensland that is sub par to the level of work produced nationally, or even internationally. And like a few other shops in Brisbane we’re starting to function at that level more consistently. But we need to keep pushing.”

“What is good about the wins we’ve had is that they are from all kinds of categories: digital, design, press, radio, outdoor, TV. To us, it means that we are truly delivering a complete integrated offering instead of merely promising it on a scope of services chart,” says Human.

GPYR’s recent award successes run hand in hand with impressive new business wins that include Premier’s Department Queensland, Queensland Health Brisbane City Council, The Gabba, EzyGreen, Tourism Noosa, and Electoral Commission Queensland.

BAD awards success comes on the back of some great recent success Patts Melbourne – # 2 at Caxtons, most awarded agency at Australian Marketing Institute Awards and at MADC.
