GenerationOne spot stands out in ad clutter
The launch commercial in the Andrew Forrest backed GenerationOne initiative to give indigenous Australians a real start in life aired last night in prime time on all major networks.
Anyone who was watching the ‘address to the nation’, with airtime donated by 7, 9, 10, ABC, SBS and Foxtel (thanks mainly to the influence of media buyer Harold Mitchell), had to agree the spot stood out amongst the clutter of commercial messages.
The message, created by Neil Lawrence and directed by Rachel Perkins (Bran Nue Dae) via Blackfella Films, was also supported digitally via YouTube, Yahoo7, ninemsn, Telstra and Google as well as full page ads in newspapers.
It would be interesting to see if any of Australia’s ad agencies and media buying shops take note and gave more indigenous Australians a job after seeing this.

I thought Patts had this account?
where the fuck are the sandbags??… talk about dangerous!
I don’t know if I’ve ever employed an indigenous Australian. Maybe I have and didn’t know it. Maybe I haven’t. Plenty of indigenous Aussies are absolutely indistinguishable from non-indigenous Aussies.
Have any indigenous Australians applied for a job at our place? Maybe. You wouldn’t know from their CV.
So how am I supposed to “take note and give more indigenous Australians a job” after seeing this? Am I meant to seek out people of a certain ethnicity? Am I meant to ask people who apply for jobs whether they have indigenous blood?
You’ve gotta help me out here. Because we tend to hire on merit. Boy, girl, anglo, asian, southern euro, kids from well off families, kids from busted-up poor families. Jesus, we’ve even got a Tasmanian here.
But this is a really nice gesture from Andrew Forrest. A guy who’s made himself fabulously wealthy from digging up stuff from the very land many indigenous Australians believe is sacred, and hence belonging to no-one, really should put a little back.
10.59 You stopped the comments dead because you hit the nail on the head. Good on you. Some one please forward that post to Mr Andrew Forrest.
