Avant Card Freecard Media launches animated campaign to educate on the use of QR codes
Avant Card Freecard Media has launched a QR education campaign using animation with the goal of increasing the Australian’s usage of QR codes across all media.
Combining the freecard medium offline with animation online, the campaign will serve to increase the understanding of QR code technology and subsequently activate the Australian market.
Illustration collective Watermark Ltd will be providing a series of smartphone-friendly animations that can be accessed via custom-designed QR codes displayed on the front of national freecard media campaigns.
With Australian Industry Research House Telsyte earlier this year releasing data stating that 10 million more smart phones will be in use by 2015, with the number set to reach 18.5 million, managing director of Avant Card, Pat Mackle has made it a priority to shift towards future consumer trends and educate them on how their primary device can be a portal to various media.
Says Mackle: “We’ve identified how valuable QR Codes are to linking offline to online. Avant Card is a print medium that’s constantly been evolving and innovating to stay at the forefront of the advertising industry for the last 20 years; QR Code technology is the natural next step. Awareness and use overseas is huge, but at this point, Australian’s are still learning – that’s why we’re running an education campaign to increase awareness and drive usage not just for freecard media but for QR Codes used across all media – even our competitors. Avant Card is definitely pro QR!”
The campaign strategy is to at once engage and educate the audience about QR code technology.
Creative still shots from the animations paired with custom designed QR codes on the front of the freecards that link to the animation online serve to engage. The freecard back educates with information on how to download a free QR code reader app and a link for more information on the Avant Card website.
Avant Card is working in conjunction with Watermark Ltd to provide stimulating animations to their national audience of 7 million people per week. They will be drawing from works by
Watermark Ltd’s team of illustrators and animators from three different studios across Australasia who mix traditional and digital media to produce award-winning illustrations and animations.
The first animation to be promoted is called ‘First Flight’ – an endearing piece about a wingless owl that just wants to fly.
The forum will also be opened up to all film makers and animators who have created work that is optimized to be viewed on a smart phone.
The ‘Calling All Short Filmmakers and Animators’ project will provide these creatives with the opportunity to promote their work at a national level, while at the same time, providing content for Avant Card’s continued QR Code awareness and activation initiative.
