Facebook’s Studio Live event hits Sydney
Facebook’s Studio Live event hit Sydney last week, attracting hundreds of Australia’s top creative, marketing and advertising executives.
Hosted at CarriageWorks, the interactive event featured Facebook global leaders who shared latest strategies for creating campaigns that are social by design.
A key focus of the event involved showcasing Facebook’s hacker culture – a culture that involves ruthlessly eliminating bad ideas, overcoming the usual constraints, and quickly coming to a working solution. Agencies were encouraged to take this hacking culture back to their teams to solve client briefs. Agencies were also encouraged to learn from others in sessions led by brands that have integrated Facebook campaigns into the heart of their marketing strategies.
Speaking at the event Facebook’s Director of Global Creative Solutions, Mark D’Arcy (pictured) said: “The hacking culture is a new way of thinking that’s energising and involves showing, not talking. We want agencies to embrace this way of thinking and the social by design concept by putting people at the heart of marketing strategies to deliver powerful and connected experiences.”
D’Arcy made the point that “we are moving from a model of advertising by interruption to advertising by permission” and that “people really care about the things they really really care about, and that includes brands.”
As part of Studio Live, Facebook’s Sydney office hosted a ‘Hack for a Cause’ evening. Charity partner, Surf Life Saving Australia invited teams to collaborate in developing ideas and prototypes that utilise the Facebook platform to educate people about how to keep safe on Australia’s beaches. At the 2:00AM, teams showcased their ideas and prototypes which Surf Life Saving Australia can implement.
