Euro launches Veet ad warning of prickly legs

Euro RSCG is launching a press ad for Reckitt Benckiser’s hair removalcream Veet, to co-incide with the upcoming Sydney Comedy Festival. The ad will first appear in the DailyTelegraph this Friday (19 March) in the Festival program insert. The Comedy Festival will run from 19April to 9 May. The ‘story’takes the consumer on an emotional journey of love and how it feels to beloved, before revealing that without Veet there will be a problem with pricklylegs!
“It’s intriguing and brings to life the underlining sexy femininity that radiates from having beautiful and touchably smooth skin,” said Rowan Dean, ECD Euro RSCG. “Veet provides long lasting smooth skin, compared to razors, and makes women feel desirable, as well as being ready for whatever is around the corner.”

I always try to say nice things about the work up here as it takes balls to post it here – but I do wonder why some people bother putting up stuff like this.
Sorry, simply not funny……well not as funny as ” It’s intriguing and brings to life the underlining sexy femininity that comes from having beautiful and touchably smooth skin. “…….What complete twaddle Rowan.
No surprises from Euro. Consistent crap, even their scams.
How can you bag work that you can’t read? I’ll reserve judgement till I can read it. Lynchy, any chance of putting a bigger version up?
Saw this on bestads a few days ago. Really well written. Shame it will go unnoticed by all those creatives who’ve grown up with visual puns.
What’s the point of putting this up here at this size?
I can’t slag off what I can’t read. Damn it.
Either you old folk need to learn how to click on something to make it bigger or get some new coke-bottle specs.
It’s nice to see some great long copy, but based on the level of literacy in the majority of the posts on here, it may not be the appreciative audience you’d get elsewhere.
I read it, now I want my 30 seconds back.
If you click on the image and then do Command Plus sign it will enlarge. As to the work itself, it’s nice copy. Not amazing but nice. It’s interesting that such a big deal is made of this either way, as it is a copywriter’s job to write copy. I guess the problem is that no-one writes copy these days so when work appears with more than a logo and a snappy tag line all hell breaks loose. Me thinks many respondents could do with a bit of Veet for their prickly comments.
The punchline seems sloppy and too obvious to me. “I love you, but your legs are really prickly?” “I love you, gorilla legs” would have still delivered the message while keeping in tone.
Good to see Euro posting something that isn’t tv and that isn’t a complete rip off of anything found at your local Video Ezy….Entrapment, Mr and Mrs Smith etc
oh god…at first I was reading it and smiled, kind of a Mills & Boon romance novel right? but the punchline is a shocker…not funny.
‘gorilla legs’, is actually much better. only takes it from c to a c+ though
Nice one Gaulty. Good to see ‘real’ copywriters still exist.
Ok. Try to be constructive.
Idea – “I love you, but your legs are prickly.” I won’t comment on what I don’t understand. Maybe I’ve never been in love. Personally I’d say “shut up woman get on my horse. And shave your god damn legs they look like tree trunks.” That’s what real men do.
Back to the idea – I don’t get it. Am I missing something? Or is it what it is? I love you but… too damn confusing.
Art Direction – WHY are some WORDS pulled out THAT doesn’t make ANY sense?
There’s NO ROOM FOR PAIN to wiggle it’s… sorry. Are you trying to shout or emphasise these words? Or is there a CLEVER CONNECTION leading these words into a SEPARATE sentence? I didn’t pick it up.
Copy – As above with the idea, it doesn’t make any sense. It seems to be long copy for the sake of long copy. But it’s drivel. A sappy-crappy love story with no punch at the end. Sorry, for me, zero marks. If you’re going to hold my attention for 30 seconds in a print ad, make me laugh or make me cry. Otherwise, get on your horse and just tell me whatever it is you’re trying to sell and get out as quickly as you can.
Research – This is a rare example of an ad that could have benefited from it.
Campaignability – Zero.
Out of five? Personally, it’s a minus 1 for use of gay fonts and pink.
Shut up Ben. What would you know? Nothing. How many awards have you won? None.
What?
?
Oh….. now I get it! Females are the target market. And because they use Veet…. yeah, wow, brain explosion, because they use Veet we should make all the ads pink. Girls love that shit. Cool, we male art directors are a really switched on bunch. Well done boys. Let’s wank!
