Digital Citizens’ first event tonight at the Burdekin sells out before final line-up announced

Tonight (March 9th) sees the launch of Digital Citizens, a new salon-style forum founded by former members of Social Media Club Sydney Heather Ann Snodgrass and Cathie McGinn along with Scott Rhodie, James Fridley and Gavin Costello. The first event ( Private Parts: Personality and Disclosure – Finding a Balance in the Digital Space ) takes place at the Burdekin, 2 Oxford Street, Darlinghurst tonight. Doors open at 6.15pm for a 6:45pm start.

The distinguished panellists will debate issues of privacy and onlineidentity, specifically around the distinction between the personal andprofessional in the digital space, who owns your tweets and whether ornot the individual is ever entitled to publicly disagree with theiremployer or clients.

The panel members are visiting US lawyerand social media specialist Adrian Dayton (Social Media for Lawyers),Sam North (Ogilvy PR), Damian Damjanovski (BMF), and Renai LeMay(Delimiter), who will be wrangled by a very capable moderator, BronwenClune (Strategeist).

Says Cathie McGinn: “We expect vigorous -yet hopefully respectful – debate from the panel and participants whohave found themselves in hot water when the line between the personaland professional gets blurred.”

The event bookings reached capacity in less than a fortnight, and there is currently a waiting list for tickets.  

Says HeatherAnn Snodgrass: “This is an issue that affects anyone with aFacebook account, not just industry practitioners. We expected a goodresponse, but this has definitely exceeded our expectations.  I’mreally looking forward to seeing how the night plays out.”

DigitalCitizens’ intention is to provide an open forum which encourages freeand frank debate. Digital Citizens is an inclusive, informalorganisation dedicated to knowledge sharing and discussion of social,political, ethical and professional issues related to new technologiesand the social web.  It’s agency neutral and the only qualification forparticipating is the desire to speak.
