DDB New Zealand wins $10,000 Newspaper Ad of the Year for Sky TV Arts Channel ‘Mark Rothko’

Sky Arts_Rothko-WEB.jpgCould be a Caxton? DDBcreative team James Tucker and Simon Vickers (pictured below left) havewon the $10,000 Newspaper Ad of the Year 09/10 for Sky Television’sArts Channel ‘Mark Rothko’, one of a series of newspaper adspromoting subscriptions to Sky TV’s Arts Channel.

DDB also won the Best Headline Award by Brett Colliver and theAdvertiser of the Year Award for long-standing client SKY TV. It’s thesecond year in a row that DDB has taken out top honours at the awards;the Newspaper Ad of the Year Award was won in 2009 by DDB creativesChristie Cooper and James Conner for their print ad for Throaties.

The winnerswere announced at a function in Auckland this evening where guestsviewed the 13 Finalists on display along with student competitionFinalists from AUT and The Media Design School.

“The judges unanimously agreed the campaign idea was striking andbeautifully written which is what great newspaper advertising is allabout”, said Robert Munro the NAB’s general manager.

TUCKER-VICKERS-web.jpgCHUCK PORTER SCREEN GRAB.jpgChairmanof Judges, Chuck Porter (below left) from Crispin Porter + Bogusky presented a wittyquestion and answer video during the show responding to questions posted earlier on the Campaign Brief New Zealand website.Local judges for the Newspaper Ad of the Year were Rebecca CarrascoPublicis Mojo, James Mok DraftFCB, Levi Slavin Colenso BBDO and AngusWardlaw Saatchi & Saatchi.

During the show a full page pressad announcing the night’s winner was produced live and despatched fromthe venue appearing in tomorrow morning’s The New Zealand Herald, TheDominion Post, The Press and Otago Daily Times.

The Ad Student’sNewspaper Advertising Competition sponsored by The New Zealand Heraldwas won by Edward Knowles and Charles Twaddle from The Media DesignSchool earning them a $500 prize. The 48 hour bonus brief was won byJonathan Fox and Jack Delmonte also from The Media Design School with a$250 prize.
