Curious Film director Tammy Davis selected at Your Film Festival for short-film ‘Ebony Society’

Curious Film director Tammy Davis’ short film ‘Ebony Society’ has recently been selected as a semi-finalist for the first international Your Film Festival.

The competition is described as a global hunt to uncover the world’s best and most exciting storytellers and Davis’ film ‘Ebony Society’ has triumphed over more than 15,000 entries from across 160 countries to make the competition’s Top 50 shortlist.

Filmmakers were briefed to submit a 15-minute, story-driven video of any format and genre. After a public vote, the top ten finalists will go on to screen at the Venice Film Festival and the winner will get to work with the competition’s organiser, world renowned director Ridley Scott and Prometheus star Michael Fassbender, along with a US$500,000 production grant.

Davis, (pictured),  who played Munter in the New Zealand TV3 series Outrageous Fortune says it would be a dream to win the competition.

Says Davis: “It would be amazing to win and incredible to work with Ridley Scott and Michael Fassbender.”

After a long stint as an actor on New Zealand’s longest running drama and appearing in some select features, Davis decided to direct Ebony Society. The short film has gone on to win awards and has been recognised around the world. With this success came the opportunity to direct again, with film Sonny, my older brother.

Since then, Davis has gone on to make two 90-minute dramas for the Maori TV station directing plays with Takirua Theatre Company. All of this has encouraged him to continue to tell his own stories. He is currently working on a feature film based on his first short film.
