Melbourne agency Cubed and University of Ballarat launch new mid-year campaign

UOB0410-B_MidMature_Press_262x200_HR.jpgDesigned to highlight The University of Ballarat’s Mid-Year intake of both Higher Education and TAFE students, the new spot created by Cubed for the University of Ballarat features typical workplace situations, with not-so-typical employees looking out of place in their current vocation.

Set in an office, viewers see a chef trying to balance the books, then a businessman carting bricks on a building site, before viewers see an engineer pushing items through a supermarket check-out.

UOB0410-A_MidMature_Press_262x200_.jpgThe live action footage is a departure from the type-generated ads of the recent past, but Phill Crone, manager, marketing and communications, at UB, is happy with the more human approach.

Says Crone: “Our Mid-Year programs appeal to a variety of people from the younger students to mature age, so the feeling of the ads had to be universal. We wanted to evoke an emotional response and convince people not to ignore their real calling a moment longer.”

Says Mike Chuter, Cubed founding partner: “UB has a breadth of offer across its Higher Ed and TAFE and we have used a human truth within the campaign that people can relate to, to stir up some action and deliver results.”

Bruce Williams, creative director added: “We wanted to bring out a bit of empathy without being too serious about it.  The ad is a subtle reminder that ‘just maybe there’s a better career path to take – and a qualification at UB can help you succeed’.”

The ads were created by the team at SceneOn, with Andrew Coyle teaming up with Trevor and Mat Holcomb.
