Cru Digital adopts ‘creative time’ policy

Brisbane based digital agency Cru Digital is giving staff 10 hours a week ‘creative time’ to encourage creativity in the workplace. The concept is based around Google’s ’20 per cent time’, which allows employees to spend a fifth of their working week on projects of their own choosing.
“Cru has a reputation for innovation and creativity and we never stop pushing the boundaries,” Cru’s general manager Rob Ryan said. “To help manage that creative culture, staff get 10 hours a week to carry out research, develop ideas, finish off things that they think they need to get up to standard and support each other. We ask our designers to get out to galleries, shows and exhibitions and to talk between themselves about what they see.”

Shameful non news press release. Must be a slow news dayk
Hey 12:01, what exactly is a ‘dayk’? Is that some strange new measurement of time or is it the Canadian pronunciation of ‘dyke’? Or are you just mentally challenged yet couldn’t resist criticising a Brisbane-related post?
Shameful baseless criticism. Must be a deeply insecure hack with affectations of nonchalance that ring about as true as the content of the criticism itself.
This kind of progressive policy is exactly the kind of news that can help push our industry in a less race-to-the-bottom direction where everyone’s working longer on more mediocre work. Conversely the kind of knee-jerk negative bile that you’re espousing is exactly that which hampers creativity and fosters fear.
(and no, I’m not an employee of Cru, though I am an art director who has used them)
12:01 has a point. I want my 5 secs back.
hey, hey – what’s with the canuck slagging? btw: we call them vagitarians.
This is a great thing. Similar to what unions brought in during the 80’s. Work 10 hours for 4 days and you can have Friday off.
2:03 here.
Just to clarify, 4:05… I actually like Canadians and certainly have nothing against pansexual Canadian women, eh? I’ve known a couple of them. (Simultaneously.)
They obviously don’t have enough clients to fill in all the hours.
Lets get quoted by making a press release about a half-baked scheme that will last til Chrismas…
