Coopers welcomes Melburnians back to the pub with beer-soaked carpet ad via The Royals
To celebrate the end of the world’s longest ‘dry spell’, Coopers Brewery & The Royals have created a huge welcome mat, made from beloved pub carpet, to welcome Melburnians back to the pub.
After spending a total of 267 days in lockdown – the longest in the world – Melbourne emerged from its 6th stay-at-home stint on October 29th, 2021.
Strategically located in the vibrant area of North Fitzroy, the 5.5 metre wide welcome mat is also soaked with the smell of Coopers Pale Ale, to give punters a little reminder of what they have missed.
Says Sebastian Vizor, ECD, The Royals: “As an iconic Australian beer that’s been quenching the nation’s thirst for nearly 160 years, Coopers have seen it all – riding through great depressions, world wars and now COVID, so who better suited to lead the charge and celebrate the world’s longest locked down city finally ending by welcoming us back to the pubs.”

Seriously, why?
Nothing I love more than the smell of stale beer as I walk down the street at 8am.
Here’s hoping there’s a putrid air of piss up the wall beside it.
An idea to rival the Submabinge!
The local teens had already licked it dry.
Because, Advertising.
I like it; it’s funny and original.
It’s a good, original OOH, and a bit of fun.
If Droga5 did it you’d all be frothing.
Agree.
Not clever advertising and certain neighbours wouldn’t be impressed.
This is rad.
What happened to breaking boundaries and fuck it, let’s see how it goes? There’s an insidious disease creeping into this industry. It’s called rational thinking. And in order for our creativity to survive and compete on a world stage, we need less of it. A shame on anyone who knocks back an irreverent or different approach. Not because it will always be good. But at least it’s not the same shit copy-pasta’d from the lamest corners of the internet.
…in a good way. Nice one.
I disagree with the negative comments. This is an interesting piece of communication…bound to get a chuckle.
But would an average punter on the street get it without the accompanying press release explainer? Or do they just see a doormat?
People all missed different things in the lockdowns, sometimes even something rank can be comforting and familiar. It’s fun. Well done.
Za, za, za, just like that.
People miss the smell of stale beer like they miss the lemon block in the piss trough.
