Coastguard NZ to conduct live rescue mission this Sunday at 3.40pm (Eastern Australian time)
Kiwis will be watching out for a Coastguard NZ experiental event which is taking place thisweekend, organised by DDB New Zealand. In essence they’re going to conduct a live rescue missionthat relies on the public to help find a capsized vessel and its crewwithin two hours.
On Sunday 31 January at 3.40pm (Eastern Australian time), real time footage shot in first personwill air on TV One in NZ. The POV footage will put viewers into the shoes ofa Coastguard volunteer at the start of a rescue operation to find thecapsized boat somewhere in the expanse of the Hauraki Gulf. Viewerswill be directed to www.liverescue.co.nz to join the search effort, where they’ll find themselves in a simulatedCoastguard Air Patrol search plane, scouring the New Zealand coastlinein real time for the missing vessel.
Coastguard will be putting four crew (in wetsuits) in an upturned vesselequipped with a GPS tracker for two hours – people participating in thesearch have only two hours to try and locate the boat before thechances of survival significantly diminish.
Throughout the night there will be further television updates givingpeople more information to help with their online search, with radiolisteners also invited to join the mission.

Well, if it’s in NZ waters maybe it should have been on the NZ blog first.
To all the creative teams out there focused on awards first.
Happy Wet Dreams.
Too confusing for the average Kiwi to give a shit methinks.
Particularly in the nice sunny weather they’ve been having recently.
Bollocks. Nice thought tho.

It was.
@3:35 it’s for the clients sake for creative teams to think about awards first.
Genius. Will be interesting to see if they can pull it off.
I like it, it’s fairly , no it IS original and I reckon a few will follow it
Oh to live in a country so where you can do this stuff.
I wish my clients had the budget the size of Coastguard NZ’s. *jealous*
Interesting concept, but I thought the web offering in particular expected too much from the user without offering enough in return. Clever and quite original, but failed in the execution. Maybe a bit too ‘self indulgent’ for a struggling charity needing to engage the NZ public?
BRILLIANT WELL DONE THEM.
WELL DONE VICAR.
Brilliant idea, but its a pitty I don’t have much knowledge of the gulf islands ect. I only saw the adds on TV this afternoon and by my reconing its about four days too late. Hope the actual live participants did OK and they where found ect. Have done S R on land which is tuff but you coast guard guys well I take my hat off to you
