Clemenger BBDO launches 90# Pure Blonde spot online prior to national TV release November 28
The social media debut of the new 90-second Pure Blonde commercial via Clemenger BBDO, Melbourne which will hit TV screens across Australia on Sunday November 28.
A teaser campaign was released on Facebook on Monday.
This latest installment from Clemenger BBDO Melbourne, titled ‘Pardon’, follows onfrom Brewtopia (2006) and Dove Love (2009) with two wide-eyed blokesembarking, map in hand, on an adventure through the picturesque land ofBrewtopia, the ultimate destination for beer lovers.
After a long andtreacherous journey the guys arrive at their destination where theyenjoy a well deserved cold Pure Blonde. Things seem to be goingnicely until one small faux pas sets off a rather unexpected chain ofevents. And in doing so the TVC illustrates the contrast betweenBrewtopia and our own impure world.
Richard Oppy, Group Marketing Manager – Pure Blonde, says thelatest TVC remains true to Pure Blonde’s legacy of doing thingsdifferently.
“When Pure Blonde launched six years ago and pioneered the low carbbeer category it was a genuine game changer in many ways,” he says.
“This new TVCheroes two blokes on a classic adventure and features the irreverentPure Blonde humour that the brand has become known for.”
“This commercial has serious scale in terms of both look and feel andspecial effects. In fact, it took seven weeks of editing, postproduction and creating the music sound mix to get to this point andwe’re thrilled with the final result, a TVC that feels epic and signalsa big summer ahead for the brand.”
The idea was created by Emma Hill and Josh Robbins, creative directorsat Clemenger BBDO, who also created ‘Dove Love’. The commercial isdirected by Australia’s most awarded commercials director, PaulMiddleditch, whose previous credits include the multi-award winningCarlton Draught ‘Big Ad’, as well as the original Pure Blonde TVC. FUELVFX did the CGI and special effects.
Hill says: “We wanted to get back to Brewtopia and create a spotthat reinforced the idea at the brand’s heart, that Pure Blonde is apure beer for an impure world. To do that, we travelled to a place thatdoesn’t exist and then completely destroyed it with a tiny act ofinnocence.”
The launch of the TVC, which has 30-60-and-90-second executions, comes justa fortnight after Pure Blonde unveiled its new Pure Blonde White Lager,a lower carb wheat beer – the first of its kind in Australia. The brandis also set to embark on a series of major music festival activationsin a national campaign to strengthen Pure Blonde’s dominance as thecountry’s number one low carb beer.

Disappointing. Where’s the cruel or even surprising twist? And why is the fall-guy always a fat twat?
wow…thats a let down. The overplayed fat guy / sidekick routine…
9.08 you forgot ‘with a beard’
contrived twaddle.
An amusing story told in 90 seconds without any dialogue. It’s an impressive feat. But if you’re going to release a teaser trailer for a fucking ad, the ad itself needs to be five types of awesome. This simply lacks for ‘forwardability’ of the others.
Fucking great.
Well, four comments of pus. I for one, thought it was great. Love it. And before we all start, I don’t work for / am friends with anyone involved.
Not up to Middleditch’s standards really, not with the comedy writing, not with the execution, and how bad is the 3D from Fuel. We understand that it’s comedy of course, and as such the vfx work doesn’t need to be photoreal, but the ice temple is horribly low-fi. The original Pure Blonde spot was magical and had a beautiful hand-painted feel to the animation and 3D, but this recent installment looks like the victim of a severe budget crisis.
Love Paul’s work, but maybe it’s time to head back to Animal for this kind of work, huh?
The SFX aren’t the problem, 10:18, nor the Direction. As with any creative venture, it’s the content.
10:11, take the build-up/ordeal out (as they’ll have to for the 30) and the joke (?) will wear thin very quickly. Whereas I never got sick of seeing that painter on the gantry kick the dove. That was an inspired moment, all the more so because it went against the advertising requirement for ‘niceness’, and happy families.
Might I be presumptuous and say on behalf of all fans of the earlier spots in this campaign, this is not in the same league.
just. not. good. at. all.
Amazing. It took 32 people to produce this pile of crap.
Weakest of the three spots. There will not be a fourth. Time for a new manager
“remains true to Pure Blonde’s legacy of doing things differently”
Am i missing something?
10:18, How can Paul possibly go back to Animals after what they did to his Bundy Bear spot? Terrible work.
Wow such tall poppies are we. I’ve been working in this industry for a long time now and before you all tell me I should retire may I just say to Anonymous 10:18 ( are you all the same Anonymous?) This is wonderful work from very passionate film makers. I have watched from the sidelines the effort these people put into their work and I must say I feel extraordinarily proud of their achievement. Whether they come from Fuel, Animal Logic, Fin or elsewhere in Australia these guys work until they drop to produce the magic on the screen under often, very difficult circumstances. It is as difficult as it gets. To Paul M and Josh and Angus and all those listed above I would just like to say fantastic work, congratulations on a job I am seriously proud to have been a part of.
Sean Cummins has had more comments than this. It must be shit.
What a terrible wank!
Much respect to you though Peter.
@ 2:39 Peter i take your point, however the amount of work that goes into a job has no correlation to the quality of said finished piece.
we want to know WHY it’s good, not how HARD everyone worked on it.
The best ad Jay Furby’s been in …
The poppies on this one aren’t really that tall, Peter.
Hold on. Regardless of how hard everyone worked on this job, it did not live up to its self created hype. It deserves to be lambasted. Good it aint.
Anonymous 10.18 – why don’t you put your name on your post?
Anonymous 4.10, why don’t you?
Sean Cummins has had more comments than this. It must be good.
1200pm. People like you bore me.
The teaser was WAY better than the real event. I am still not sure what they were trying to say. The climax was never reached, or at least a let down.
So…he went to grab the beers coz they are so yummy and amazing but grabbed the dress instead so she is nude and then the guys face is suggesting what???
This will win a creative award but consumers will decide at the checkout
Anonymous 4:10 – Because then you’d know they worked at Animals!

4:51 – You don’t have to work at Animal Logic to see the differences in the 3D and the vfx work between Pure Blonde ‘Utopia’ and this latest ‘Pardon’. Now it’s the same agency, same writer, same director, same editor, even the same compositor who moved from AL to Fuel, so what could it be that makes these two spots so different?
Yes, the story of a belch causing the downfall of it all is a bit trivial perhaps, but the truck backing into Blonde Paradise wasn’t necessarily yards funnier, and you can’t do better than the truck driver in Utopia for casting and performance, but maybe the first off the rack has an advantage, so as 10:53 pointed out, content may be a good deal of the issue, but I think you just have to say that the overall visual execution of the original is heaps better, more refined, just more beautiful to look at as film making and digital post production.
No one should be suggesting that Fuel is an inferior vfx house, but just maybe the money was a good deal shorter this time around, and they were willing to take it on for the price, in the end getting caught short on the polish, and the time it takes to do convincing 3D? Yes, ice is tough, but so is water. Photo-real is time consuming, and as we all know, time is money. Creative reputations are made and lost over just these kinds of decisions, and I think it’s safe to say that Paul’s is pretty safe.
Just saying.
Open in the same NZ valley as the Big Ad. And that’s where the similarity stops. Pathetic.
funny, like the post, like the direction, think it looks great!
are you fucking serious?
are you fucking serious?
I keep asking mysellf…
are you fucking serious?
what a let down!
I thought it would be great.
its worse than i ever could have imagined.
dumb dipshits. bad post
what’s all the stupid hype about.?
the trailer was shite, with the expectation that this would be better.
don’t tell me its the greatest beer ad ever
don’t tell me your great
its HAM & CHEESE.
his sucks unicorn nuts
utter bullshit. i wouldn’t be proud of that.
Love this place, I think it’s hilarious. This will go really well with the drinkers and that’s all that matters. Will win awards and sell more beer. Tick.
People on here knocked big ad when it came out, now you all rank it number one. Funny.
I like the spot but agree on the post.
Unicorn thingy was done nicely, but the ice was awful.
Also have a feeling it would have sounded a lot funnier on paper, can’t put my finger on it, like it’s almost there, but a hell of a lot better than the tooheys extra dry stuff.
I am having a six pack of blondes after work ! fantastic spot, specially that last couple of shots when the mountain crumbles !!!! looked pretty amazing to me … although I am no 3d person, it look pretty effeing great ! well done … dont let these bastards take you down 🙂
Seriously? Seriously?
So many good creatives came up with that pile of… i don’t know what?
*golf clap*
Would have been a better add if instead after the belch, the mountain didnt crumble but there was a shot of all the chicks from the forests and mountains coming towards the 2 dudes, with blondes on offer ofcourse. Would be heaven.
