BWM unleashes the power of Sydney Writers’ Festival via multi-platform campaign
Belgiovane Williams Mackay has launched a new campaign for Sydney Writers’ Festival bringing to life the 2011 theme of power, highlighting the power of writers to create and effect change.
The multi-platform campaign includes TV, guide in The Sydney Morning Herald, print advertising, posters and Avant Card Mini Mags. BWM’s concept has also been leveraged by The Nest in its design for this year’s Festival web site and iPhone app.
The strategy behind the campaign was to appeal to a broad audience,including younger people who are not aware of the contemporary natureof Sydney Writers’ Festival content.
Says Sydney Writers’ Festival Artistic Director Chip Rolley: ” We werevery excited to be joining forces with BWM on this year’s campaign.Ours is a large Festival with 400 participants in over 300 events inone week. BWM took our message and theme and gave us a campaign that isfresh, imaginative and exciting.”
BWM executive planning director, Jamie Mackay added: “The SydneyWriters’ Festival is well recognised and highly regarded amonginternational festivals. With its progressive programming andshowcasing of exciting and controversial themes, we had a lot to workwith. The 2011 campaign and identity celebrates the power writers haveto instigate change.”
The campaign will run until the end of Sydney Writers’ Festival which will be held 16 – 22 May 2011.

After viewing the poster, I was going to slag off the TV for being yet another ‘homage’ to the genius of Saul Bass.
However, after viewing the spot that would be unfair to the memory of Saint Bass.
It’s just a melange of borrowed animation styles that illustrate the brief instead of elucidating it.
On the other hand, its shallow bombasticity is a brilliant demonstration of all that is wrong with contemporary writing.
But I suspect that meta-advertising was not their intention.
