BMF imports Spanish husband and wife team Carlos Alija and Laura Sampedro for ECD roles
CB Exclusive – BMF has appointed husband and wife team Carlos Alija and Laura Sampedro as executive creative directors reporting to Dylan Taylor, managing partner.
Most recently, Alija and Sampedro were at Señora Rushmore, Madrid – currently Agency of the Decade in Spain, and ranked No.1 in creativity for the last 4 years.
The pair effectively replace creative director Dennis Koutoulogenis, who left the agency at the end of December and former ECD Dylan Taylor, who was promoted from ECD to managing partner in last November after the agency was split into three distinct teams.
In the last 15 years, Alija has had numerous international awards whilst working at Y&R, McCann Erickson, Publicis and BBDO and has created global work for Coca-Cola, Renault, The International Olympic Committee, and Pepsi. In the AdLatina Magazine (Spanish Ad Age), he was included as one of the Top 20 most remarkable Latin American Creatives of 2010.
He will work with Sampedro, formerly head of planning at Señora Rushmore.
Sampedro has worked at Lowe Lintas, TBWA, Publicis and BBDO across the following brands; Renault, Coca-Cola, Pepsi, Absolut, PlayStation, Diageo, and Unilever. Having a highly creative profile, she has also chaired some of the main Latin advertising festivals.
They commented: “We’ve come across the world because BMF is a first-class agency, with the ambition of becoming a globally influential company with atrue unique spirit. We are delighted that BMF is open-minded enough to count on ECDships with different backgrounds and that Spanish passion is welcome on board. We cannot wait to start and sweat blood to develop some groundbreaking work for our clients.”
“I look forward to having their global perspective drive the business and deliver some unique creative work,” commented Dylan Taylor, managing partner.

What an unusual hire.
I’m looking forward to seeing what their Spanish influence will produce in this country.
Good luck.
Viva Espana!
Enjoy the Summer….
Gone in 9 months…ariba!
I think we’ll be seeing a rather large influx of Spanish and Portuguese creatives soon.
After all, their countries are, shall we say, buggered.
Welcome guys.
Que?
Behind every good woman. There is a man with a beard.
welcome to our shores, and cant wait to see what you bring.
this market usually just chops and changes bitter old winos and wannabe hipsters. if you want something different, look somewhere different – kinda makes sense.
good luck to them and bmf, and welcome to Campaign Bitch!
Like all of us I’ve never heard of the senor and senorita, but if I owned BMF and had collected my cash, seen the agency lose some pixie dust and people etc, this is exactly what I’d do.
It’ll be great or horrible, but I doubt boring.
Brava!
Worrying for staff, but such is life.
Viva las experimentes!!!!!
I’m always somewhat surpised by these kind of hires, especially when Australian creativs do so well on the world stage. From memory, better than Spain.
But if that is the way you want to go, it sure beats hiring another Pom who had an office at BBH or Mother. Let alone another Yarpie.
Great hire for BMF! Would have expected to see these guys get snared by the likes of Droga or Whybins, so this makes a refreshing change.
Good luck amigos!
Tell Laura I love her.
