BMF Melbourne launches ‘a giant leap in backyard technology’ with new spot for Ryobi
BMF Melbourne has launched a 45sec TVC for the new Ryobi 36V Battery Lawnmower.
It focuses on the lack of product development since the first petrol mower, in an unusual way.
Says David Klein, creative director, BMF Melbourne: “By juxtaposing the humble lawnmower against some of the more interesting technologies from the past 60 years, we were able to create a humorous story that ultimately positions Ryobi as leaders in garden tools.”
Mark Devitt, RYOBI national brand manager said: “The category has been stagnant for some time and only now are we seeing genuine innovation. It’s something we wanted to reflect here and we reckon this spot nails it.”
Agency: BMF Melbourne
Director: Steve Saussey
Production Company: Film Construction

That ad is a cut above complete shit, but only just.
One small step for BMF. One big step for poo poo.
“…poo poo.”
The eloquence of this arena never continues to disappoint.
It’s pretty good, considering the category.
The ad has freakin’ lasers!
Nice 🙂
I didn’t think it was too bad, but do these tools really outperform their petrol equivalents? and what is the payoff why would I use an electric tool for my garden?
Lawn rave anyone?
It’s a giant leap backwards in creativity, but what else would one expect from an agency like BMF Melbourne.
4:51.
Come here. Lemme give you a hug. It’s ok, cry it out.
The quote from the CD is the funniest part of the ad….. next.
Nice work Cal and Chris – always love an ad with lasers!
